Fentanyl user/looking for advise to stop

Hi, first of all thanks to whoever takes the time to read this.  I've been addicted to fentanyl for about a year now and so desperately want to be off of it.  I've been using about a 75mg patch everyday.  I now have 4 100mg patches left and than I wont have anymore.  Does anyone know how I can use these 4 to tapper down so I wont have to go through withdrawl?  And is it enough to avoid withdrawl, at least the worst part of it?
Also does anyone have advise on how to haddle that pull that seems to pull you back in?
Thanks again to anyone with help to offer.

I forgot to mention that with Fentanyl it will take a little longer to be free of the stuff.  Oxys are washed out quicker from your system but Fentanyl has a longer half life, it also depends on your metabolism.  Figure 120 hours and you'll be golden.  Good luck and we are here for you.

I was also on fentanyl and percs and 3 days ago quit CT.  There really is no way to tapper down.  I tried going from 50 to 25 and it was bad so I decided want the heck and went for it.  It has been a little slice of H $#$ but I am hanging on.  I keep telling myself that each hour that goes by it getting me closer to being free of this stuff.  It's hard but if I can do it so can you.  Keep us posted.

Hi,

I was on the patches @ 75 as well along with percs for breakthrough pain.  Check out some of my other posts or PM me and I can provide you with some additional info.  Fentanyl is a seriously strong med and I would really advise that you get a substitute med to taper with.  I used percs cut into halfs and quarters.

You can do it but tapering with the patch is extremely hard...

Well to taper you could try wearing it instead of shooting or basing it, it would at least quell some of the withdrawal for the first few days. Once you run out though, it is gonna be tough either way, so get yourself some help from AA/NA meetings in your area. You can do this, I was in your shoes 14 months ago, but it does get better.

Good Luck!

Hey Again,

You're right, some things ARE better left unspoken.  You CAN do this.  You know you're going to get sick for a few days but it's doable.

Keep reading old posts and get informed.  Only you can stop the madness.

Wishing you well,

bob

Hi, thanks for your answers.  I dont wear them and no I dont smoke them.  I'm not sure I should say because I wish to God no one had taught me what I know and If I say how i'm using them I might pass on a horrible thing to someone that I never wanted to learn.

I've never heard of the Thomas Recipe so thanks for that.

I so so badly want this to stop.  Like you said its madness.  A horrible accident left me needing those horrible things and now I feel completely stuck.

Thanks for the encouragement.

Hi!  As far as handling the pull after detox, go to an NA meeting or see an addiction counselor.  Some type of aftercare is necessary or you will stay in an awful cycle!

Now, I don't think you can taper very well with patches.  You probably need to get in to see a doctor, and get a plan.  They can give you clonidine or something to help you taper.  OR....you can go cold turkey.  Have you read the Thomas Recipe?  It has some helpful stuff in it.

Keep posting ok?  You'll get a lot of help!

Hi and welcome,

If you're using one patch per day are you smoking them???  Are you wearing them properly and replacing them everyday???  Are you wearing more than one at a time???  I don't understand the "one per day comment" perhaps you could elaborate.

If you have 4 100 mg patches left you do not have enough to do an effective taper that will reduce your wd symptoms.

That's the bad news.  The good news is that you CAN do this.  As for how to handle the pull?  You can go to a meeting, see a counsellor or go to detox.  Have you told anyone about your addiction???  Getting a support system to help is essential.

Many will help you here but you need to want this badly to be successful.  Are you quitting because you have no supply or because you want the madness to end???  If it's a supply problem then YOUR problem is likely to continue when supply resumes or a new one is found.

Do you want it???  THAT is the $64,000 dollar question.

Make your preparations, understand ALL that will happen to you BEFORE it does.  Get the THOMAS recipe items (found in bottom right of this page).  Psych yourself up and get it done.  Go into this with a good attitude about the positive choice you are making in your life.

Keep posting and everyone will help you get through this.
Goodluck and Godspeed,

bob
