Finally Took MY First Step

I took my first step and handed my bottle of Percocet over to my hubby 2 nights ago. I told him no more than 4 a day and that I want to be down to 3 by the end of the week. My addiction s not as bad a some of you here but it's an addiction all the same. I started in 2007 when I had gastric bypass surgery and could not understand how I could have such a euphoric feeling after my surgery to the point that I was out, 2 days after major surgery, walking my dog every 2 hours. Then  I found out the surgeon gave me liquid Vicodin. I was able to do after surgery, what I had not been able to do for 20 years on any normal day. Then I found out it was the prescription. I wanted more! With all my ailments and such pain on a daily basis, This was a huge improvement. I did housework that I had not been able to do for over 20 years on NSAIDS. I have to be honest and say that had my doctors not made such a big deal about me becoming addicted to these meds because of their reputation, I probably would have followed the script to the letter.Somehow  they seemed to glorify it by making it such a huge deal.
Anyway, here I am 3 years later, no longer feeling good on these meds. The euphoric feeling has been replaced with huge amounts of fatigue. Doc now has added Soma to the mix and the headaches just suck. Why is it so damned hard to have a pain free day?

Just a suggestion if it's needed, a fire safe is even better than a good hiding spot. I know me, so I knew I needed a lock I couldn't pick. Since I am not professional thief, a fire safe works great for my medication to be stored in. Although, he might want to hide the safe as well, not because of you getting in it (that is something only a professional can do) but "out of sight, out of mind" kind of thing.

Hi,

Good for you for taking the first step.

Know that even though you are doing a taper of sorts, you will have withdrawal. Also be aware that as you drop your dose, you will begin to feel the effects of the withdrawal. I hope hubby is strong and has a good "hiddy" spot.

Keep up the good work and if you begin to feel a little crumby, let us know and we can give you some tips.

And, it is possible to have a pain free day. There are alternatives to pain meds. You need the find what works for you, i.e. acupuncture, physical therapy, etc.
