Gabapentin Changed my Boyfriend

I need some advice. I was dating a man, I will call him John. John was shot through tthe hand and leg about a year ago. His nerves are waking up and last I knew he was on Vicoden, Lexapro, and Zofran. He was supposed to be taking Gabapentin, but ran out while we were dating. when we first got together he was very nice to me, almost exactly like me. He complimented me all the time, cared about me, etc. He started getting really sick and they finaly refilled his Gabapentin, the first couple days he said he felt better than he had in a long time, but all of a sudden he stopped wanting to see me, then he passed out and wouldn't let anyone take him to the doctor,  couldn't remeber things like talking to me on the phone and then he got worse and started becoming mean and cruel. I broke up with him. I tried to be understanding and friendly because I felt sorry for him but he got worse and then started imagining I was changing his facebook password. He became a totally different person. He also told me they were giving him morphine. Is this normal with Gabapentin? I'm really sad about it.

No track marks no. I know he was abusing Vicoden too. He was also prescribed Zofran, and Lexapro. I originally didn't really care because he was normal, and I knew he was in pain from his injury. When he first took the Gabapentin I thought it was going to be good for him since it seemed to make him feel great and his mood was very positive, but I really don't know if he was also taking the morphine then or not.

It wasn't the gabapentin it was the morphine and what ever other pills he was on. Probably the reason he didn't want to go to Dr when he passed out he was on something illegal. Did you ever see track marks on his arm?

People moods change with drug use he would have just got worse as the relationship went on. Be glad he is out of your life now. You would have just suffered more abuse.

many people get that way from morphine. paranoid delusions, hallucinations etc. i think that might be the culprit here. good luck, sway

Hi & Welcome,

It does not sound like Gabapentin to me at all. Are you certain he wasn't using any other pain meds?

The Morphine could very easily alter his personality. It is a strong opiate. Is he still taking it?
