Getting off oxycontin/roxicets.

Hello everyone, I'm in a terrible situation and thought maybe a forum like this could really help me.
I've been on the Roxicodone 30mgs for about 9 months now and have pretty much been nonstop.
I know what all of the withdrawl symptoms are and I know pretty much all about it but I really need help and encouragement getting off of them.
I don't want to get into a rehab or anything like that because I have a fiance and we are struggling to
make it now and it would kill her and bring us down if I had to.
What should I expect in the long run?
Today I was 3 days clean off of them until somebody asked me if I wanted to smoke one with him
so I had about an eighth of the pill and stopped because it's been really making me sick and I
don't even feel good off of them anymore.
So, I guess any advice and encouragement would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much.

hi,
O am an opiate addict. I have been clean for 42 months now. it took alot to over come this horrible addiction, You CAN do it!!!
at the end I was taking between 10 - 12 roxi 30's a day and any other opiate I could a hold of. 5 -8 oxycontin 80mg a day. I was bad. then my little brother killed himself.
and i knew i would be next.
i tried to go cold turkey, dont ever do that. i decided to gfo to the methadone clinic, they just wanted me to keep going up on my dose daily. i decided to wean off my self, little by little i went down on the methadone all the way to 5mg a day then figured i could stop, but got sick still. so i went to a dr. and told him my situation, he put me on suboxone. i went from 1 pill a day then to a 1/4 of 1 a day and then stopped. i was ichy for about 3-4 days but nothin g i couldnt tollerate. i am now off 100%.

so thats my story and what i would recommend.

Hey, thanks so much for the advice,
I woke up this morning and just felt terrible all over although this is
like my 10th time going through the w/d. I feel that smoking pot really does help to
and since 2 years ago, its always been a daily ruitine for me and helps with my
anxiety that I have, I really appreciate everybodys feedback!
I have to go to work now, but I will be back on as soon as I get off!
Thanks.

It is normal to dream about them, but when you wake up you have to realize that it was Just a Dream. Don't dwell on it and stay focused on your goal. Your brain is trying to get you to take pills b/c it's in survival mode right now...you're breaking an addiction and all it knows is that it needs more of whatever was making it feel good, so it puts your body thru horrible w/drawals so that you can feel bad enough to take one...that's why it's such a mental struggle too, b/c you have to overcome that primal urge to satisfy your cravings. You'll start to feel better really soon...every day will start to get better and better. As for the smoking grass, I personally would recommend it...it helped  me tremendously, and it's all natural. There's only a stigma about it b/c it's "illegal", but it grows naturally from the earth, put here as a natural stress-reliever...and these are stressful times! I find it helped to take a couple hits now and again throughout the day, and smoke more right before going to sleep to help me sleep. you don't wanna stay high all the time, though, b/c you have to experience being sober too, and become accustomed to that feeling...so use it occasionally as it helps you get thru this come-down  time. It'll alleviate some of your burden and ease your tension. That's just my opinion, i'm sure others will disagree...

Well I am starting to get really bad headaches, I'm all congested, my legs hurt, I'm lazy and don't want to do anything at all, my ears are even popping all the time now. Is all of this normal? My head feels tight all the time like somethings squeezing it.
I've been skating outside and took a nice hot shower, oh and I've been drinking green tea all day. My buddy told me that I will dream about these roxi's for maybe 6 months.
For the past 4-5 months now, everytime I don't take any for a few days, I dream about them and it makes me want them really badly the next day. Is that normal too?
Thanks.

I think you'll get conflicting answers here as to whether or not it's ok to smoke pot.  I think it's fine to smoke but many(most?) others on here will tell you that it isn't.  I guess you should really find out as much as you can and make your own decision.  I think part of recovery is discovering why we feel like we need drugs to feel good, whether it be pot or opiates.  Obviously the ideal situation would be that we're all happy or content or at peace or whatever without getting high.

I just got off work and everything is going alright but I know it will get worse, I hear alot of people say that sometimes (depending how long you've been doing them) it can take a couple weeks.
I also hear that it is pretty much all in my mind, and to me, when I am depressed, I smoke a doobie and it helps me mentally. With that being said, is it ok to smoke pot to substitute the crave or even just to help?
I also skate at the skatepark or even just outside alot so I hope that'll help.
Anyways, i'll be back on in a bit,
thanks.

I think the fact that u obviously want this is a positive..fanastic point in ur favor...many worry bout feeling awful  so intensely that they feel even worse, and crave like the dickens..til they cave...u almost did  but it sounds like ur mindset saved u and that is important..I think attituded for me is 99% of the whole 9 yards.
I was almost excited when I stopped...i was so sick of it...sick and tired of being sick and tired...like u i didnt even get a buzz off them anymore and often just depression from the pills...and i was going broke popping pills to make myself unhappy!  Made no sense and when i begin to feel foolish...often that is enough for me to change sumpin.  My physical wd was not bad...flu-like, runs, headache, fatigue, nausea..nuttin i couldnt handle...the mental part later just about got me but seeking support and the thomas recipe along with the gym got me thru it.
Post here often..be sure u have support if u do not already...the forum is aftercare for some/many choose none...for me i needed real life aftercare with people i could touch and be accountable..number one i found i needed to be accountable to myself tho....  we r all different
hang tight

I, too, am addicted to roxi's (along w/ lortab or any other painkillers i can get). I'm trying to stay clean right now...i've already gone thru all the physical w/drawals, but i couldn't help myself either and took 2 30mg's yesterday and 1 today. It defies all logic b/c i've already gone 17 days without (well, that's not entirely true...i slip up and take one every 5 days or so)...I'm not the best person for giving advice (obviously!) but I encourage you to NOT take anymore if you're already on day 3 or 4 by now...that's the roughest time of coming down, and if you start up again, you'll have to experience all that over again. It's inevitable that you need to get off, so why prolong the inevitable? May as well make this time count since you've already gone thru the worst part! The fact that you didn't feel good when you took one recently is your body's way of saying "hey! i was just starting to heal and find myself again, and you're putting this **** in my body again?!!" so it's not the happy-go-lucky feeling you were expecting. let that be a sign and stick to your guns and accomplish your goal! we can encourage each other, as i'm going thru similiar situation too. The more you write on this forum the more in track you'll keep yourself, and reading all the encouragement helps too. ps...if you're not already, you should take L-Tyrosine (check the health pages) and eat foods high in protein..and get EXERCISE! it helps wonders, even though you don't know how you'll find the motiviation for it, once you actually do it you'll feel MUCH better, and it'll help contribute to a better night's sleep. it releases natural endorphins. oh, and get lots of vitamins in your system too. Keep your thoughts positive! yes, it takes a grand effort during these times, but it's the only way to make it better!
