Going to make a effort

I have of course been prescribed for 5 years hydrocodone 10's. I really want come off them. I am going to try my hardest. How long does it take at maximum the withdrawals for hydrocodone. I am so worried about going through this because I do feel alone and so disappointed in myself that I have let my body need a medication such as this for so long. I only take at most 4 in a day but most of the time only 3 a day when the pain gets really bad. I do have panic and anxiety disorder and also depression but I do take meds for these conditions which is non habit forming. Any help would so be appreciated. I read all the info and reading this has made me think I can really do this. Any help would be wonderful thanks.

congrats on makin ghte decision to get off the pills.. it will be hard for a few days but the best decision you make!! i have been through all this before but started using again pretty much for the last year (w a few small breaks in there of not using) i am very early in my w/d as i relapsed yesterday i want to kick myself.. but don't get discouraged because of me i am back on track and doing it and MANY people do it and make it!! set up things for the detox the thomas receipe many do.. def hot baths w epsom salt and the BEST thing you can do is drink drink drink water!! do not get dehydrated..you will feel worse... there will be people on here commenting and giving you different suggestions.. just keep posting.. you were not at a very high dose but you were on them for a long time.. hard to say how bad your w/d will be.. all you can do is surrender to them and not fight it know you are going to not feel good for a few days but it gets better and better and you are going to be AMAZED to see again what it feels like to be sober and not numbed (i can't wait for that) you can do it!!

Honestly I do not know how long it will last. You were on a waaayy lower dose than I got up to. I was probably taking up to 10-12 10's a day for longer than your 5 yrs..  and i am just starting. Vic's are my drug of choice. Haven't had one in 6 days. but was dumb & took some oxy's because I am to scared of the W/D's, so here I am. stitting at work feeling like crap. Don't get discouraged. I have tried quitting over & over.. I have never made it past day 3.  But you are not me. I am really going to try this time. I am sick of this...roller coaster. its ALL i think about. I am (7 mo) separated from a 20 yr marriage. I need to get a life. away from these. Honesly I don't remember what it feels like to not be taking a pill.. I pray that it will get better every day. I do not want to cave. I CANT!! I want the feeling that some people talk about on here of feeling great about life with no pills. That everything is clearer..  I wish you all the best in your recovery. I pray that you have more strength every single day. You can beat this!!!!!!

I started feeling better at day 4. I'm at 8 days. I have a lingering tweaky feeling but it is not anywhere close to those first 3 days. I was dosing 30-40 mg for 2 years, with barely any breaks.

I feel MUCH more alive now. I feel MUCH better than when i was taking pills.

Take a deep breath and take the jump.  you don't need superpowers to quit, just the desire to quit. It's like the flu, or a dandy hangover that lasts a few days. It takes a while for your body to forget those pills, but if you recognize the symptoms for what they are: pill hangover, or flu, it makes the jump smoother.

Hate the pills

You Can Do This!!!! The only thing to fear is fear itself. You could start by wending off 1 pill every five days, then after 15 days try a half a pill for a week, then a half pill every other day,for another week. You should and could be Vicodin free in a month.

                                                      Prayers and Blessings

Hi there & Welcome. A Big Congratulations to you on wanting to get clean & on reaching out!

The first thing I'd like to say is that you're in the right place & you're NOT alone. The second is the good news: you're not on a high dose & age is on your side. This is eminently DOABLE! Fear of the unknown is what gets in our way most of the time. Start telling yourself as often as possible that you're going to do this & that you're worth it -- that you're much stronger than you realize.

The second thing I'd say is that planning ahead is one of the major keys to a successful detox. (The others are a determined & positive attitude & getting rid of your stash/cutting all sources -- SO important!) So, to be safe, I'd set aside 5 days if at all possible. (Bear in mind that everyone is different & we often have to adjust & play it by ear.) Generally acute w/d's last between 4 - 7 days depending on time in, DOC, dosage & age. You'll want to stock up on: food, comfort & OTC meds (Imodium & Ibuprophen) & vitamins/minerals. If you haven't already, please, check the 'Thomas Recipe' (searchbox). It's full of excellent detox tips.

I'm glad that the site has given you some confidence that you CAN do this. I promise you that you'll no longer feel disappointed in yourself if you take this leap of faith & stick with it for the short time required. Here's wishing you all the Clarity & Determination you'll need to push through this & meet the new you on the other side. We're here!

Hi and welcome! You've got some great advice from the above posters. I just had a question for you. Does your doctor know that you are trying to quit taking the pills? If not, this is a very important step. It's always a good idea to let your doctor in on what you're doing. They know your medical history and know whether you're healthy enough to go through detox on your own. It's also important because you need to cut your sources in order to succeed in quitting. Whether you get your pills from a doctor or a dealer, if you don't cut that source, you will have a weak moment and start to use again. Get it in your mind that this is it. If you are sick of the cycle of pill use and ready to get your life back, then there is no need for a back up plan! You can do this!! We are here for you. Let us know what symptoms you are having and we can give you suggestions for stuff that may ease them. Please keep us updated on how you're doing. This is a great place to get support and encouragement. I wish you the best of luck! Take care of yourself!

Thanks all. It is day one I am fine but that weak feeling is setting in and have not took a hydro. I am fine but that want is there of course. I feel so much better that I am not alone with this. I have always prided myself my whole life on being so tough and strong and got hooked on this it does make me disappointed in myself but that also gives me more drive to quit. Thanks so much for the support it is so helpful.

I did have a talk with my family and I have their full support which helps to. When I want one all I will do is turn to them. My symptoms are a bit different than most my appetite doesn't go away thank goodness but I wake up in cold sweats and have a weak and generally uneasy feeling. But I am going to make a good go of this. Thanks all for the positive comments.
