Heroin help

My ex just told me he shot up again last night after 2 and a half weeks clean. He has been battling heroin addiction for 2 years. A year of snorting/smoking and a year of shooting.

Any advice on how to handle a lapse?

He is in an outpatient program and attends meetings.

It will take time for him to 100% quit this time. Most do not do it at first. Hope they don't test him. But if they do and he is dirty then he'll know he has to be serious. The cravings are very strong.

One good thing - he was honest with you. He didn't lie. He may want to consider talking to the treatment place about suboxone. Sometimes long time users need that for a while to get a handle on it, quit and work on themselves.

Keep your chin up.

Good for you!!! I know it's hard, of course it is. You only just started going so give it TIME for you to understand. You will start to realize that your emotions have been determined by an addict and now you can start to re-focus. It will also give you a different perspective on this whole thing. I promise you that:)

Yes, I went to two now. I'm trying to focus on myself, I just care about him so much more than I do myself so it's hard.

Yes. For you to go to an alanon meeting. Did you look one up yet?

He has his support. Nothing you can do. You need your own.
