Help gonna detox at home from vicodin/ percs/ buprenorphine

God help me I have taken off next week from work with a possibility for a second week if needed -used an excuse about family -and I'm getting off everything narcotic -have dr appr tues with a family practitioner who helped me get off 150mg methadone cold turkey 5 years ago at home- with the use of catapres , lomotil and paxil,  buspar, klonopin and restoril -can it be done? I've never gotten off pills before only been using last two years -but I got off heroin cold turkey -and then years later methadone cold turkey -anyone know how it will be comparativly? Surely it can't be as bad as the past withdrawals I've done?? Thanks for any input and or support -Amy

Yeah I did it until I went back to work -on the tiny amount of sleep I had been getting -paxil gave me vivid nightmares and a constant feeling similar to morning sickness-so my dumb *** has used a few vicodin a day all this week for work -after 10 days off -no more as of after work today -will I go through full blown wd again?

Yes it can be done. Yes you are going to do it. You have help from a dr, time off work...you are going to do this. Look up the thomas recipe and get everything on it. That, with the meds from your dr, you should be ok. It should be totally doable. Just relax. Go get tons of movies and food/drinks. Stay hydrated. Get all the junk food you love and just try to get through it. Man, I have w.d in work before. I wish I could have stayed home during that time. Good luck

Hey well I'm in day 7- I had no rls -no diarehia-just some anxiety until I got clonazepam and catapres and lomotil and paxil from my dr-all one time scripts except the paxil he wants me to stay on paxil and add buspar next week when clonazepam script is over-he thinks since I've managed to never do drugs till I was 29- then only did heroin a year and got clean -then 3years later got methadone for a year from where I worked-then got my head straight and quit cold turkey from 150-200 mg a day when they told me it couldn't be done -they tried to give me methadone to ween down and I refused it and I pulled through with this drs care -and now I've been taking vicodin or perc or Oxys-whatever is around -I read that taking suboxone for a week steadily lowering your dose from 2mg down 0.25 a day will mask the vicodin withdrawal and make when you get off feel more like the second week and it really worked it wasn't that bad I'm just sore and weak -no nausea or diarrehia -so if you get stuck needing to get clean ever again try it -but only take a week cause if you take it 21 days or longer the wd from it is supposed to rival methadone wd! Thanks for your input it helped ease my anxiety before I started -do you know anything to help the achiness-? That and feeling weak are all I have going on now-thanks, Amy

Thank all of you for your input -I got suboxone on Monday -just to last me till I Can be off  work -and only taking 2mg a day -forst 3 days-1mg yesterday and today-then 0.5 mg sat -0.25 sun mon then tuesday is my dr appt -so I hope that won't make my wd longer!!! I was addicted to percs and vicodin -only using these because they were given to me free and they work but I Wang off everything cause these make me feel fuzzy in the head or something it's weird -and as far as benzos the only time I've ever taken them is when in wd and prescribed -so I'm not afraid to have them -I'm so anxious already Im probably gonna need them -a friend of mine suggested dr give me Librium -isn't that just for alcohol wd? It was really good to hear from most of you that it should last less time than the other w/d I went through -thanks Amy

I know for me I couldn't trust myself with Klonopin or Restoril They gave me Restoril in detox and I remember thinking how I could easily become addicted to it, but I took benzos while on Methadone which I wouldn't even begin to recommend considering it almost killed me and did kill a few friends of mine. Sorry to go on a tangent.

Danny, make sure you drink lots of water. I know you'll just **** it out, but you don't want to dehydrate. Take some vitamins, I drink vitamin water and take a multi vitamin before bed. Also, I eat a bundle of bananas a day for the potassium, to keep my legs from cramping. A good friend turned me onto that and it really worked. You will be just fine. Keep coming to the forum and updating us. Tell us your every symptom, and someone will have an idea for ya. Keep up the good work...... SEE THAT DOC!!!!

Wait, are you taking Subutex? If so it's gonna be similar to Methadone detox, but if it's Vicodin or some other short acting opiate 2 weeks should be sufficient. You'll still suffer from PAWS, but it should be ok to return to work. Although everyone's different. There are many people on here that would totally disagree with me, but I'm just speaking from my experience.

Make sure you keep your doc appointment.  Keep in mind that you are older now, and I've heard many claim that wd gets harder each time.

But don't be discouraged!  You have a doc giving you all of the right things.  I'm assuming you only used the bup when you didn't have anything else, so that shouldn't be a problem.  Working will help you keep you busy, so try to work the second week if you and your doc think it is ok.  Good luck

For many people fear of the withdrawals was actually much worse than the wd's turn out to be from vicodin.  It's going to be a week or two of not feeling well.  I've never been on methadone or heroin but I have an employee who recently got off methadone and from discussing it with him I'd say this will be a walk in the park in comparison.  Just a week of feeling cra-ppy and maybe another week of slightly cra-ppy and then you're done with the physical part.

Keep posting if you need support.

Thanks so much for your input -it took me a month before I could function when I quit meth cold turkey so I'm kinda afraid -but it's reassuring for you to tell me it will be shorter -I lost 26 pounds in a month and was under a drs care then! Good thing I got some extra weight now!

The withdrawals from Vicodin will be much easier and shorter lived that the wd's from methadone and heroin.  You'll feel bad for a couple weeks at the most.  For most people days three or four are the worst and it gets gradually better after that.  You'll feel cra-ppy, anxious, depressed, etc.. it's hard to get a full nights sleep too.  There are various suggestions on here for things to take to help.  The Thomas Recipe is on here and it's a list of vitamins and otc stuff to help with restless leg, diarrhea etc.

Having a week off work will be perfect.  Lie around, watch tv, if you feel up to it exercise, just do whatever it takes to make time go by and you'll feel better in no time.
