Helping a friend
My friend and i both are struggling with cocaine abuse. There have been several times when we were high that i mentioned talking with someone about what we were doing. Maybe even check out an NA meeting. When we are using, he always agrees and thinks it would be a smart move. But it never fails that he changes his mind by the next day. I and his other friends can see that he is in very bad shape. Smoking crack/cocaine everyday. How can I get him to stick with it and not change his mind. This is very important as I see him going down hill very fast. thanks

I tried what I think was called "crank", I only did it once. The people we were doing with were the dealers. I rememberd that their daughter about 10 or so was missing from home for a couple of days. They just kept smoking, shooting, snorting. Even though I was high, I was the only one in the drug house who was worried about this little scared child.
I was also wondering, if you are smoking and you are doing such large amounts, are'nt you just chasing the ghost of the first hit? When you shoot, that was for me the scarriest time. I thought for sure I was going to go to the ER.
I always wanted to just do a line here and there in my own home and make it last all day, then I could just sit and chill. Never did happen cuz I was so scared to buy on my own, and the dealers would not sell to me if my "friend" was not with me.
I wonder is anyone out there has ever thought they smelled coke being smoked, or maybe being cooked. That is another thing, there are still days I open the drawer and find a spoon that is bent and black on the bottom. When that happens, I just shake my head and thank GOD I am done with at least that demon on my back.

About the bathroom thing, I remember after snorting a line I would have to go number 2. LOL, If we were shooting up, I always felt like I could have a huge organsim. When I was that high, I just wanted to sit and read a book, or go for a trip in my head.
Gizzy32, the very sad thing about my being clean was that after I quit the coke, I had a car accident and have disk issues, and now problems with the SI joint, so if the truth were told, I have really traded one DOC, for another. I have become hook on Vicoprofins.
I hate going through the no pills no life days.
I truely believe that if I had not moved away from my friends and dealers, I would not be alive today. As time went on, I became very brave about buying my dope without any of the boys going with me. When I met my now husband, I went one time back to IL to see my drug doing friends. I had 3 kids with me. I told boyfriend that I was just going to down to get a few pills for the very bad migraines I was having. (they were very very real and were running my life). SO, of course I had money, and we partied until 5 am. I then drove to WI to see if I could find my BF before he went to work. I located him on a road on his way to work. He pulled over, I begged and begged for him to give me one more chance. For some reason he had faith in me. I never ever felt the urge to do the **** again. Really for me was the dreams I would have about getting high. But as I have said, running out of pills is a horrible nightmare for me. Getting stuck on the pills came on so slowly, but very hard.
Steveo42, the code habit I had I believe cost me the most precious things in the world. My unborn twins, Daniel and Katelyn. Both sperm donor and I were using. I will never know for sure. We made it until I was 5.5 months along. 33 days in bed at the hospital waiting day by day for the wortst event I have ever lived through. Parents are not suspose to bury their children. I went through more than a year of pure hell. I continued to use coke even after I buried my babies. It was a connection between me and the daddy. My now husband has given my babies his last name, and made sure they had a last name to put on their headstone. I am after about 20 years from when I started using, I am the only one alive out of 4 of us. The last one I heard about was mainlining in his mothers living room and she found him in the morning dead. It was only a matter of time. His DOC was pills. He would get my welfare insurance card and call dentist at all hours of the night telling them I had a toothace and could not even come to the phone. Then I would have to go pick up the pills. He would take 15 at a time so the supply ran out everyday. I was flagged as a dope seaker and I was not even taking them.

Thanks! I do have a couple questions. I'm not sure how much my friend who smoked the coke was using, but one night we both used for hours and I wondered if he was going though it as fast as I was? Also, is it normal to have to use the bathroom almost everytime you do the first couple lines?
i snorted cocaine in my younger dqays,,,most unsatisfying drug i have evr done...never felt like i was "there" never would a been a doc for me for sure as it is just more and more with no plateau of well being...glad u r getting clean
Ohh and I will say that it doesnt matter how much you do, even if you have been using only a short while. The days I snorted 9 grams I still felt like I could do more, even after both sides of my nose were bleeding,,,,,,
Wow, a lot has changed since yesterday. The Coke is gone and like other had told me, It was a good time to STOP. Its only been a day, but I have felt fine. I know I need to part ways from the others involved, but I am taking it seriously. I hope I can maintain this feeling. Just getting back to GIZZY32's comment. Yes, there were a few days in a row that I used 9grams, Thats not a typo. I really didnt find it hard either. Although, I/m not sure where the $3,000 came from. We had a total of 60grams and it was cheap at that amount. 9 grams might have cost me $400. Still, like you said, way too much and pushing for a ride to the ER!
Your "friend" will keep you using rather then you get him to quit. Maybe ya"ll should talk when your NOT high about quitting.
Good post morgan. I'm so happy to hear you stopped coke:) I did not mean that coke is hard to come off because there is no physical w/d's, coming down is horrible and scary though. What i meant is the mental part, it is stronger, and relapse one of the highest of all drugs. I could not make a choice like you, i chose coke over my girlfriend, family and my own life as it was killing me and i still could not stop. I think 2 or 3 out of a 100 or so coke addicts i have talked to on here have stayed clean. Eagle and Cathy come to my mind on here that have stayed clean.An eight ball still is about $200 and if you were using that in a week, then by coke standards you did not use a lot at. I do believe different drugs can grab us differently so im not arguing your point it was a great post you made. some don't get off on coke at all, just like i never liked pills so we are all different, but our battles are the same.
Lol, you are so right about the media, not only with coke but i think a lot of drugs. Like when they bust someone with $200 worth of weed and say street value is $500, crazy. Anyway congrats on 13 years, wow. That is inspiration:)

Wow, a $200 a day habit. How do people find that kind of money. Staying employed can not be easy. When I was doing coke, we would spend $200 in a week, sounds like prices have gone up. We would usually do an eight ball if it is still called that.
The sad thing is that I would budget it into my bill money.

I agree with gizzy 32 about the fact that you need to do this for you. When your friend is ready to get clean he will. The fact is, he may never be ready. You have to be ready to accept that as well. I disagree with gizzy32 about how hard it is to get off coke and coke related products. I quit 13 years ago. I did not go to rehab, I had to chose between the coke and my new boyfriend, now husband of 11 yrs. I find getting off my pills is oh so much harder than the coke ever was. I dreamed about coke for several months, but the physical does not exsist. It is really all mental when it comes to coke.
I only went to one CA meeting, all they talked about was getting high. I did not need to hear that several times a week. The first and only meeting I went to had a speaker who talked about his last huge binge. I did not understand how talking about coke for several hours was going to keep me clean. I moved, stayed away from my coke doing friends and could not buy coke to day. I do not know who, or where I would get it. For that I am very greatful. My DOC is now Vicoprofin. I find the w/d from those worse than coke ever was.

Hey Stevo.As you know from chatting before i have been clean from coke 10 years.When I quit my wife and I were banging about half an ounce a day.I wasnt just addicted to the drug I was addicted to the needle bigtime.What worked for me was I had my dad drop me off at a treatment center 15 minutes after firing up.I wanted to leave real bad when I started coming down but I stayed and I made it.I STILL miss coke (and meth) but today I can objectively look back at all the chaos that **** causes in my life and be grateful for what I have now.Inpatient treatment provides a degree of seperation and a safe haven from the rat race.The best thing you can do for your friend(and yourself )is to lead by example.Good luck and Im here for you if you need me.
Hi steveo, first off i don't want this to sound rude, but i need to be honest so don't take this the wrong way, i just want to help:) If you are both using 6-9 grams of coke a day that is well over $3000 worth of blow a week, is he selling? When high we talk about a lot of **** like going to meetings and quitting i did all the time, but i never quit till i overdosed after a 3 week binge and went to the ER in an ambulance. At this rate of 6-9 grams you will crash in a couple months and probably be dead within a year. That is an enormous amout of coke to be using.
If your friend does not want the help then there is nothing you can do right now and should be focusing on YOU. You said you only snort it, well let me tell you, it is just as damaging as smoking it, close anyway with the added bonus of a hole through you nose from sniffing it. Although there are no physical w/d's from coke, the mental battle is so much harder then pills, sorry but true. Would he come on here to read some posts? without support or help, neither of you will quit this drug , i relapsed every week no matter how hard i tried to stay clean, but then i found this forum and got support and it helped so much. I also attended N/A for a lil while until i came here.If he is not serious about quitting then he won't. If you continue to hang around him and he is using, you won't quit, FACT. please focus on yourself and get off this drug before it kills you.
