I have no personal experience of this, but it isn't actually all that new, it's been around since the mid 90s at least. The basic prinicple as I understand it is that they sedate/anesthetise you, so you aren't aware of the pains etc and then pump you full of naltrexone. The naltrexone binds to the opioid receptors in th brain so you can't get a high from opiates anymore. After the detox is done, you have to contine to take naltrexone - unless you have a naltrexone implant but that's not common. Medical opinion seems to larely agree that as a short term quick method of detox, it's effective but doesn't address the possibility of replapse at all. It might be argued that the pain of going through detox is one of the motivators to stop you ever getting into that position again... but each to their own. Bear in mind that this typically involves general anasthesia, intubation and ventilation so it's not something to approach lightly. There's a bit of info about it here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naltrexone
And if you google for online medical literature, you can find sites like pubmed and hubmed or drugscope etc which will also offer a bit more info about the clinical studies performed so far. Just search for rapid detox or something similar at any of those kind of sites.
I have no idea whethe being pregnant wold affect this, you'd have to ask a doctor, but I would have thought they'd be reluctant to put somebody pregnant under general if they could avoid it. Plus there is the question of whether naltrexone is safe in pregnancy, - I have no idea.
It is dangerous and expensive .I don't think they would do it because of your pregnancy.
I believe that the Australians use the rapid detox much more than we do in the States. It is subsidized by the government there. Costs the people around $3000 to get done. Still pretty new and a lot of unanswered questions. The Canadians closed a few clinics in Montreal because they had fatalaties involving the treatment. It doesnt sound that attractive to me ..... mostly for the time element - but also for the pharmocological end. Lot of reasons to do it the old fashioned way.
Boogieman,
I could not agree more and that is an excellent point! Thank you for reminding me.....
hi. this type of treatment only addresses the physical withdrawal symptoms. it does nothing for the emotional, psychological, spiritual and biochemical repercussions that linger long after initial detoxification. without a good plan of recovery to follow up with, this would likely be a waste of time and money. good luck, gm
Sorry, didnt understand if you ment you couldnt take the oldfashioned way or the "fast way"!!!
I too would pay that amt. to have this behind me!! I think your right, the going rate is around $6,000!LOL ; )
I would pay 6000 to be have a miracle detox.I think that is the going rate. The old fashioned way takes along time, alot more than a week. And if your in a position where your working it makes it imposible almost.I wish it were that simple.I think you have a good point, and if you can take it do it..i have when i was younger, dont wnat to now. That is why im trying other aves..
It is called the "Wassman" method and while I do not have personal experience with it, I have heard horror stories. Anyone who has detoxed can tell you that day three is uncomfortable. Imagine that 100 fold. It is unsafe for your heart and other organs.
I know that withdrawal is not fun. I have been through it too many times to count but when you think of it---it is a week of your life with the flu in lieu of spending the rest of your life being a prisoner....well, it really isn't that bad. I say just do the detox the old fashioned way and get it over with.
Good luck in your decision.
I wonder if its not the model bacause it's new and ins. wont cover it? I guess maybe no pain no gain huh?
I would be interested to hear if it really worked. It seems kind of hard to believe, why isnt that the model if thats the case? I actually took the time to read that advertisement and what i got out of it is that you still detox..They say the worst part is over but its not long enough, How does someone wash this out of your receptors?
one of the things i had heard about it was say you were a heroin addict and you did this kind of detox if after the detox you used again alot of people would overdose because you have no tolerance at all. I am not an expert and not sure if it is absolutely true but it was something i had heard about it.
