15 days clean...insomnia killing me

I'm at 15 days out of detox totally clean...and 25 days with no methadone.  Things are slowly getting bearable...the biggest issue is this insomnia...in the past ten days I've slept a total of 26 hours...this killing me. It's hard to stay strong when I'm so tired but can't even rest my mind. Any suggestions??

I agre with all I had no sleep for a month then little bit. I did the cocktail too. but when I started to do the magnz,Ds and cal powder from plant I now sleep good sometimes I will take a melatonin again. It took about 2-3months for it to kick in it works. I was on the methedone for 12yrs with adderal and benzo went c/t from 30 mgs. like weavers says TAKE IT EASY one min at a time it DOES GET BETTER. Proud of you to get off of this evil drug. I also study the science of the brain this takes time to come back too. God Bless KEEP ON TRUCKIN

Thank you so much for all the encouragement. I know it's a matter of faith at this point. Faith that this too shall pass.  I'm trying my best to stay positive and keep my mind in my day...it truly is one day at a time. I'm staying my course. You truly don't even understand how helpful this site is...it's inspirational to watch people gain more days even dealing with the pains of withdrawal. Thank you again!

This is by far the hardest part for me and I've tried everything...except sleeping pills which I'm afraid of.

I get into bed feeling exhausted and then I'm wide awake.  I also think I'm putting too much pressure on myself to sleep.

I hope you find the solution...and then share it with me!

I just had to trust the people that had been through it and said it's worth it. I was feeling quit insane, so I kept posting and going to meetings and counseling. I remember telling my wife, "I can't think about anything else, I have to force my recovery to stay in the front of my mind." I didn't have the brain power for much else, insomnia is nasty. It was literally a leap of faith for me, I honestly didn't think I would ever go back to any kind normal eating, sleeping, or thinking. Methadone was killing me though. I was on a lot for a good while, but I'm glad to be free. It's worth it, you won't regret, best decision you've ever made, just trust in that for now. Time starts to speed up and life takes a whole to form. What do you have to lose, just hold on with everything you've got. It gets better, trust me.

Sickntired...I'm right with you...actually I'm 4 weeks off today. And the sleep issues are killing me too! Friday night I didn't even GO to bed, and last night I forced myself to lay down, and I laid there staring at the back of my eyelids for about 4 hours and finally gave up. Seems I get most of my sleep in the recliner once I've decided to just say heck with it and get up. I catch about an hour or so in the recliner some mornings. I did manage to get four hours of sleep the other night....the first time that happened in about a month...and it felt great! I felt like I had slept 10 hours. Lol. I hope we can both get some of that precious sleep that alot of ppl take for granted! Stay with it....it'll get better, you'll see :) Oh.....and a big congrats on your clean time.

My bedtime "cocktail" is taken an hour before I want to try and sleep.  I get up at 4am for work so each precious minute is of value to me!  I reduced my caffeine to nothing past 10am (1-2 cups of coffee) and then before bed I take a hot shower.  Then 5-HTP, Valerien root and Melatonin.   I brew up a cup of sleepytime tea and head to bed with a semi boring book on addiction.  When I feel a bit drowsy I turn of the light and do the progressive muscle contraction and relaxation technique.  I try and keep my mind free of thoughts....or I imagine being somewhere far away..just not thoughts of things I have to do or stressing about not sleeping.

I am 19 days clean and can usually get a solid 6-7 hours.  Best of luck!
