Dr to blame

I have been on Norco for about 4-5 yrs I WAS taking up to 5 and rarely 6 a day, I cut that down to three that I am allowed a day and now after all this time my GP is concerned that I am taking the 90 a month that he gives me! I have a torn rotator cuff, I have had Achilles' tendon surgery on one leg THREE times and am a chronic migraine sufferer, I have been on one form or another of Narcotics for over 20 yrs, now all of a sudden my GP is just now concerned about how many I am taking that he has prescribed for me to relieve the pain in my right shoulder? I only take THREE a day every six hours as The GP HAS TOLD ME,I follow it to the letter and no I don't drink and I do have anxiety meds that I take that really don't agree with me. I can not afford the surgery that will keep me off for at least three months because I am my only source of income! So how am I suppose to get thru the agony of the withdrawal and still work and not loose time, and still function?

I don't have anything to relieve the pain in my shoulder or that Achilles' tendon (due to three botched surgerys) and from what I do for a living I lift constantly, can't seem to get across to THE GP or His Nurse who happens to also be his wife, that I can't afford nor do I want another surgery so soon after the last three failed two years ago! So now you see my dilemma, I was getting 120 a month and I made that do for about five weeks he then cut me down to 90 and now he wants to cut them off all together, I will look into that Thomas thingie to help when the time comes I can no longer have them which I do believe will be I. 30 days and thanks for listening it helps with the anxiety and stress

Yeah, I have to agree with Sonrissa....tell your dr, ok, if you want to stop prescribing me the meds you've been giving me for years, fine, but I will go through some w/d (they really shouldn't be too-too bad), so you need to give me something to help.  I believe clonidine helps and is non-habit forming. Being that you're already down to 3 a day, how about continuing w/ the taper and then you should really have mild w/d's for only a couple of days?  When you read on this forum about people having really hard times regarding w/d it's usually because they (we) have been taking waaaayyy more than we should have.  I am NOT taking away ANYTHING from your situation, however, if you can keep it to 3, taper to 2, then to 1 over a few weeks maybe, you should be ok!  Just make a plan!  BTW...stay away from the benzo's while w/d!

Wow, I'm really sorry that you are going through this.  Did your Dr. Give you anything to help with the withdrawals? How are you supposed to manage your pain going forward? Were you able to even discuss withdrawals with him?  I think if it were me, I would make another appt with your Dr. To discuss this further.  We can help you with the withdrawal symptoms. There are things you can do to help ease them. Read the Thomas Recipe, the link is at the bottom of the page, for some really good information.  Please keep posting with any questions or if you would like some support. There are lots of great people here to help.  Best wishes, and take care!

Yes the GP said this was my last refill and yes I did go thru withdrawal when I went from the five down to the three, yes it did happen and it wasnt good, and I promise you I only take three a day every six hours 6-12-6 are the three times I take them and I did try to do on my own once and became very ill till my husband said enough and gave me one to keep me from getting sicker, I don't really want to go thru that sickness again as I a learning I must be a dependent kind of person when it comes to narcotics, I have been going thru this since I was in my early thirty's I am way past that now :(

Hi there,  I'm sorry but I am a bit confused. You take 3 per day, and your Dr. Prescribes 90 per month, right? Is he cutting you off?  Why would you go through withdrawals? Just need a little clarification.

Welcome to the forum!
