Day 16 and getting teeth pulled?! :(

Actually in 30 minutes it will be Day 17 clean!! BUT I am starting to panic.. I am having some teeth pulled tomorrow.. I told the dentist I do NOT want pain meds especially opiates.. Obviously after 12 years of taking them and less than 3 weeks of being clean.. I do NOT want a pill!! They told me they can give me Tramadol which I have NEVER had.. Actually too afraid to take any pill.. I don't want a good feeling like pills used to give me.. Don't want to want a pill to feel good!! But I am so afraid I am going to be in excruciating pain.. What should I do?? After taking pain meds for so long I don't think Tylenol or Motrin will work for pain.. Any advice?? Thank you!!

Thank you for ALL your support & Great advice!! It means so very much!! So I has the teeth pulled about 5 hours ago.. I have been very honest with my dentist because I am serious about staying clean..he was going to give me the script for Tramadol & I said No & so he gave me ibuprofen 400.. So far it's a little uncomfortable but not too painful.. Crossing my fingers & praying it doesn't get any worse.. I can handle this pain!!  I do NOT want to lose my clean time... I will NOT lose my clean time!! :)  thank you everyone!! I hate the dentist!! LoL

Tell your dentist.   You don't have to take opiates and having teeth pulled is not that painful after they are pulled unless you have a dry socket.

You will be surprised at how well the OTC meds work!  They also have ibuprofen 800 that comes in a script.  Ask for those instead.  Alot of times you feel better getting those teeth out that have been causing problems.  You will get thru this.  Let us know how you are doing~

You need be honest with EVERY Dr you go see and tell them you DONT want any narcotics!! If he knows your struggles he may encourage u and calm the mental fears you are experiencing. It really is all in your head...tylenol & motrin work on all pain if you want it to...im 94 days clean off percet 30 mg 10 to 15 pill day habit. i have back pain from time to time. sometime i think it in my head just cuz i may be craving pills that day and BC or motrin, aleve do work for pain... you may be uncomfortable for day or two but if a child wanted something for pain his parent would only give them OTC meds...why cant an adult to... you can do this:) Prayin for no pain and all the gain in your life!!

About the teeth....I too noticed a lot of us have dental problems after were done....when were cleaning up. I have thought about it and  I connected the dots....because we were taking so many pain killers we didn't know how bad our teeth became. And I've had a tooth pulled two weeks into clean time and Motrin worked like a charm. The more you obsess over the fear of pain. The more pain you'll experience. We are what we think.

i had my teeth pulled after i quit. Seems like everyone gets this done when they're trying so hard to stop taking pills. Oh well. I wouldnt take any opiates. Motrin or just tough it out. Other than that, if you take the pills you might as well start counting days all over again. Not trying to be mean but there is no way 17 days into withdrawal an addict can handle his or her doc. trust me. it will put you back into the throws of wd. God Bless

"But I am so afraid I am going to be in excruciating pain."

My first wife pulled some of her own teeth with a pair of pliers. ;)

Technically, Tramadol is an opiate agonist. Opiate agonists are drugs that mimic the effects of naturally occurring endorphins in the body and produce an opiate effect by interacting with the opioid receptor sites.

I hope it doesn't hurt too bad and that you can get by with Motrin or Tylenol..

That's what I am afraid of.. I've read a lot of people's posts coming off that too!! Which is crazy because when the dentist mentioned he would give me that.. He said it is NON narcotic & not addicting!! I told him I heard otherwise but he kept insisting!! I really hope I can do it without filling a script!! Why does this crap happen now?? I want to be pill free!! And that means ALL pain pills!!

Be very careful with the Tramadol if you do fill it.  It is addictive and withdrawing from it is hell from what I have read on here.
Good luck tomorrow.

No! There is nobody! It's just me & my 3 young kids! I honestly don't want them!! I am hoping I can manage with Motrin & Tylenol.. They are going to give me Tramadol but I'm going to try not to even fill the script..I want to keep my clean time so bad!! That's why I told the dentist I had a problem with hydros & percs so do NOT give me that!!

If you have to take something is there someone who can manage the meds? You give whomever the meds, they give you a pill as prescribed. Then you have to be honest - as soon as Motrin will work, flush whatever is left over.
