How do I get off of methadone?

How do I get off of methadone?  I have been on methadone for about 8 months now.  I am taking 70 mg. daily.  In a few days I will begin detoxing at 5 mg daily.  Are there any suggestions to aid in my journey?

Gradually.  You'll make it.  Go to NA meetings there this detox.

HI....ITs always good to here when someone wants to take there life back.....im sorry I dont agree with the taper you have been given it is way way to fast we cannot post taper plans in the forum but 5 a day is going to feel like you got hit by a truck.... going out on a limb and trying to stay in our guidelines doing that amount a week would be more realistic and that would be faster then most clinics will bring you down this stuff is strong you notice even 2mg changes in the lower doses it all sounds so nice and clinical but in reality this is going to take a few months to do correctly or your going to torcher yourself  I came off 150 in 8 1/2 mo and that was 1/2 the time suggested and I can tell you I went in and out of withdrawals along the way it takes a lot longer to go from 40 to 0 then 80 to 40 the lower the dose the more you feel it and the slower you will be forced to go my advise is talk to the doctor this sounds more like a miss understanding to me then a actual taper from a doctor  is there a doctor involved with this ?? or is this your own plan ?? I know how to bring people off methadone I have helped many please respect our guidelines I would love to give you the plan I worked but because we no nothing about your health conditions this is best left to a doctor to me 5 a day is undoable unless your being forced out of a program for a dirty u/a coming off this fast borders on cruel take what im saying to heart its not the way to get off this stuff everybody is in a hurry with methadone its the tortus that wins the race not the hare.....I wish you luck DO SOME RESEARCH you have a computer if you did deep enough you will find a safe taper plan better yet get to a doctor and have him/her bring you off good luck and God bless......Gnarly
