How to get someone into rehab

Does anyone have some suggestions on how to get someone into rehab without failure and total rebellion.  And in a state where there are very limited facilities and a large waiting list.  I believe she will self destruct if this is implemented without going the day of.  I see this on television all the time with intervention shows, but that is not reality.   There is also a component that involves the health issues which are more paramount.  Someone mentioned speaking to the specialist.  Would this jeopardize a liver transplant in the future, a break in rapport now only with me but with the physician, etc.?

i have been through substance abuse, treatment and recovery many times. it is always a battle, but worth it. There is a great website called addict-help.com. It has lots of resources for you to look into. As for making someone go who doesn't want to, sometimes an intervention is the best way. Speaking from personal experience, i was adamantly opposed to any kind of help. But my family sat down and didn'tt spare my feelings at all about how what i was doing made them feel.. I ended up going to treatment the next day, so, there is always hope.:) And if your doctor cuts you off because of this, i think it's time to find a new doctor who can work with you and who knows something about addiction. Also, having a bed lined up at a treatment center or several might help, because they can just go, without having days to change they're mind. i think it's important to get them in there as soon as they are the least bit willing to get  help. And as for her lying and wanting to do it her way, that is typical addict behavior. It will be very hard and unfortunately nothing may work, but my prayers go out to you and good luck!

Unfortunately she is a grown adult who knows she had a longterm drug addiction history in earlier life.  She became a serious alcoholic, hiding quite affectively and promoted by the workforce she had been in all her life.  Now it is killing her with a failing liver.  She is in early 50s and stubborn as an ox.  She has lost 40 pounds and was quite short to begin with.  I heard Phoenix House closed and one in PA.  They are closing more often than I can realize.  I also know, because I am a DMHP myself that I have trouble getting people into rehab and rely on a whole team who does not know what to do on a daily basis.  It is getting worse for help, especially for the ailing.  They do not want people who are sick like she is and because of her financil circumstances I do not know what we could afford and function.  I work 7 days a week just to help out and I am getting exhausted helping her and work.  My life is now topsy turvy.  I can call the insurance provider.  I will try to do that Tuesday.  I am traveling and working day hours tomorrow without a break.  I will try to speak to the specialist but do not want to ruin their relationship.  If they realized how much she lies, they might not care about her anymore.  Doctors only want to help the people who care about thier survival and want to do the work and she wants to do it her way and con those who care about her.  If you have anymore advice, please let me know.  I will traveling later tonight, but will try to tie in with all you folks when I have a free hour, which is only late at night usually.

Hi Mack, how old is the person who needs rehab? Did this person detox? You can call hospitals for both. If he/she is already clean and needs further treatment, try Phoenix house. Call Narcotics Anonymous as well. ****Call your health insurance provider, they will give you a list over the phone of every counseling and program center in your area.
Good luck, it's a tough road.
This person has to be willing to comply, unless it is your child and under 18, you can call those programs/counselors for advice.

Mack - where are you located?  Someone might have some resrouce information who lives in the same place that you do.  I have been a part of an intervention before for a friend who was bi-polar, but refused to take medication, so his family did an intervention with some professional help and they were able to persuade him to treatment.  In your case, does the person who needs rehab think or know they are an addict?  Do they want help?  I would definitely speak to someone from a community outeach center who may be able to give you some advice on treatment options.  Best of luck to you.
