Husband wants to do 3 day detox off heroin using subatex

Hi guys haven't posted on here for such a long time. My husband is a recovering heroin addict. He's relapsed for what is now the 4th time. He came off subatex at 0.2mg lasted 16 days. I thought he was getting there after a few uncomfortable weeks but then he admits he's back on heroin. Im finding this really tough again as he always self destructs when there's something to look forward too. We have a 2 week holiday abroad in 13 days. He booked himself back into rehab with a doctor appointment to medicate on the 7th. So problem being he will be on supervised pick up for 3 months, told them about our holiday and he will loose his prescription if he doesn't turn up. His plan is picking up for 3 days taking 8mg each time then nothing. Hoping the shelf life of the subatex will get him over the worst of his withdrawals not giving enough time for the subatex to addict to his body. Then hoping the 2 weeks away will help him feel better.
My question is has anyone else done this? I'm apprehensive about it. I don't feel his head is in the right place. I've gone through 10 years of trying to help him fight this x

You want my personal opinion.....I think this is a bad idea.  3 days worth of subutext isn't going to do **** b/c as soon as he's finished it, he'll be right back where he started.  It's a waste.  Subs are not a miracle.  If you both have a holiday for 2 weeks where he can be left alone and rest...I say go cold turkey of the h and just complete it.  Just wondering....he was on subutext previously and weened down?

Yes last time he was in rehab he jumped at 1mg.found it too tough so started buying subatex off the street. I didn't know! Anyway he missed his appointment thinking it was the 8th grrrr. So now he has decided to buy methadone and do a 3 day detox using that. It's now 6 days to our holiday with our 10 year old.just need some advice of what to expect and if this is a good idea. He seems reluctant to do cold turkey has he works.

So....if I'm understanding correctly, he's now at 3 days with nothing in his system?  Hows he doing?  He should be pretty freakin sick at this point.  If it's a true holiday and ya'll have nothing you HAVE to do, then I would suggest for him to ride it out.  He's got access to a room with no one to bother him....I would get epsom salts and get him to take a bunch of hot soaks in the tub with the salts.

I am a mother of 4 and I'm 45 years old....I jumped off of the subs at 24mg per day for 7 years.  It took some time....don't get me wrong....definetly NOT an overnight fix, but there isn't one when your trying to get clean.  I am NOT saying this for any other reason other than perpective....1mg...24mg...I'm not quite sure what he's looking for i.e., a withdrawal that doesn't come with being sick.  At some point, he's got to go through this!  I get it he, he works, and I'm assuming he's the main source of income....but he can't stay like this.  Drug use and addiction ALWAYS catches up with us.  When he was at 1mg he should have just pushed through it....perhaps he's not ready.  There's no easy fix to this...and honestly, if you can help him stay clean for these 2 weeks that would be your best chance to helping him get through this and then get his *** into recovery ASAP!  Of course, WE can't get others clean....he has to want it.....I think I'm going to leave it there....HE has to want it!

Thank you I totally agree it's all on him this time. If he doesn't want it nothing will work. We both work hard. He got his appointment wrong at rehab so decided on plan B. He is doing the detox using methadone over 4 days. Yesterday he took 20ml. He's woke up tired cold and sweaty, but gone to work. Today he's taking 15ml and so on. X

Why did he go to work if ya'll are on holiday and had 2 weeks off?
Did he HAVE to go or choose to go?

I am fairly new but the hardest part for me was that first step...  I didn't think I'd EVER do it.  I know we do it for ourselves but I consider my family/kids to be a large part of that decision.  *I* want to be around for them...  It sucks don't get me wrong but as JunkyDave tells me "doable"
I met a guy who did FMLA to recover - company was totally on board...   Good Luck....

Our holiday is booked for next Tuesday. He's done 3 days methadone now and tomorrow nothing so let's see.
