I am terrified I might have overdosed today.....any advice?

Hi there,

I am currently on 90mg methadone maintenance at a local clinic for 3 months now;  I am also seeing a psychiatrist who has been prescribing Valium 5mg twice a day also for 3 months.

Today, I dosed at the clinic at 7AM, then took my usual 2 5mg Valium pills, but the anxiety/panic/tension did not abate, so I took one more (5mg) a few hours later (like, around 9AM), then another 2 pills (10mg) a few hours after that (around noon).

So, in total today: 25mg Valium in addition to the 90mg of Methadone early in the morning.

Around 1:30PM, I became VERY sleepy and took a nap for exactly 3 hours, waking at 5PM.

Did I OD?   or did I stop breathing and suffer any brain damage while I was asleep for those 3 hours?

Or, am I being paranoid.  Just how dangerous is this combination?  Does anyone know?

yeah, another person this morning said that I wouldn't be coherent or able to carry a conversation if I had somehow stopped breathing while asleep and lost brain cells.......however, I just need to know definitely if that is possible.  Thanks for your response.

You seem fine in your writing and thinking.  Please let all your docs know what you are taking.

yes. Make sure he knows because the combo can be deadly.
And please don't take more than the  prescribed amount.

Are you on methadone maintenance because of prior opiate abuse?

yes, a minor/mild prescription drug habit, but I'm more concerned about brain damage that might have occurred while I was napping yesterday after taking 5 Valiums in addition to the morning 90mg methadone.

You need to tell the psychiatrist that you are on Methadone.  Better to be safe than sorry.

I see you have been on here since 2008.  Have you been on both of these meds since then?

no, the methadone for 3 months, the valium for 3 months also.

Methadone and valium are both nervous system and respiratory system
Depressants. They are a very dangerous combination.

Does the psychiatrist know you are on methadone?

Do you get urine tested at the clinic?

Why are you on methadone?

the Methadone is provided via an outpatient opiate-abuse clinic; I'm pretty sure (not 100% though) that the psychiatrist knows that I am on the treatment program.
