Idk if this is really related to the addict in me, but here it is...

I need to start by saying, I'm sorry for allowing my addict to win last month. It was dunb to let my guard down, but now I have a much bigger problem. I'm undergoing a total laproscopic hysterectomy on Tuesday, Aug 28th, and I'm terryified! For many reasons. Since my last post, I'm 19 days clean of heroin, subs, and even tylenol! My worry is that after my procedure, that I'll be sucked back into the life... Has any one else had something like this and can u give me some advice? Please

If you take the meds as directed, and then stop the minute an OTC med can do the job, then you should be fine. You may have a mini detox, but nothing major. Also, be sure that there are no refills with the initial script. And finally, suggest that your wife count the pills at the end of each day to be sure that none of them evaporate.

Thanks for your post -- I'm 12 days clean and facing knee surgery and I had the same question -- I went to the orthopedic just today and turned down Vic for a non narcotic -- Mobic, in any event I'm waiting for my MRI and results but I'm facing the same fear as you. In any event If I am given the pills I have a trusted person in waiting (my wife) to administer them when or if needed but I will try to avoid it all together if possible. I am wondering if I do end up using them am I going will my body go through withdrawals again being that it is so soon after my detox? Can somebody please answer that for me because I will avoid them at all costs if that's the case as I do not want to go through that hell ever again! Thanks...

Hey Momma, Can you first try non narcotic meds like toradol or a anti inflammatory first? I know in the hospital they may give you a post procedure shot, but when you get home try avil etc. If you have no chioice but to use narc., as Doc for the mildest one (tylenol 3 maybe), have a family member administer them and finally stop taking them as soon as the severe pain lets up. Good luck, Don't fret this, your going to be fine!!!

Thanks for your input... Kyle, I'm PM Sarah now, and Sonrissa, I would like to PM you as well, due the somewhat private nature of this matter... but thank you... so much!

Hi momma! Congrats on your clean time! I'm sorry that you have to have surgery! Lots of folks have been through this! You might check with Conhall as she recently had surgery after getting clean! The key is to take your pain meds only as directed by your doctor and only for as long as needed to control the pain! Have someone you can trust keep and hold the meds and to give them to you as directed by your doctor! I also had to have a hysterectomy several years ago, and honestly, the pain was not too terrible! I only needed pain meds for a few days! Good luck and take care, and keep a positive attitude!

Sarah once shared how she manages med when and if they are necessary for legit reasons, as in your case. Basically, she has someone she trusts pick up and then administer the meds, per the doc's instructions. You should PM her. I've adopted her approach. It is a smart thing to do. Dominosarah is her forum name.
