Info re:Methodone

My daughter has been on methodone for 4yrs. She was addicted to painkillers. Is it possible to get off methodone,  The clinic she attends does'nt seem to encourage getting off the meth.  I'm just an concerned mom who wishes to help her daughter. I read something about zinc/magnesium, is there anything to it.  Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Im at 14 days off methadone & was initially on 90mgs & tapered for a year down to 1mg, its a hard road to take, many changes take place on your body & mind, theirs lots of depression & tons of anxiety, you cant walk away from this drug without having to suffer some, thats just a fact! Doctors & counselors all reasured me that I would suffer light withdrawals, if this is light withdrawals off methadone, Id sure hate to see what moderate or severe withdrawals are, as this is a long drawn out process, but it does get better, but it takes time & above anything else, you gotta want it, if she doesnt want off methadone or has no desire to stop, then she will not make it. I wanted it more then anything & worked hard to get off of it. & Yes, most clinics dont want a methadone client to leave, this is a money making business but trust me when I say, Ive seen people who were detoxed real fast over financial reasons, & this is when they drop you at a fast rate, I can only imagine how these poor people must have suffered, I got lucky, I had a counselor that gave me hope & saw me thru this. I hope she does want off this, I believe that no one should stay on this drug long term, & theirs many to many that do, to me thats sad.    Penelope

I am 3 week s off the methadone. it has not been easy. I was only on methadone for 6 months. I got down to 15mgs a day. could not get past day 3 of no methadone. The w/d's were so bad for me. I had to take a different route. after 17 days I am still having w/d from the methadone. Anyone who has been through it will tell you, it's hard. The place I went to keep wanting me to up my dose..
If she wants off it. it can be done. I will never take it again.. that is for sure....
Good luck, tell her to join here. she can find alot of support and help...

Today marks 30 days free of methodone for me and I'm still suffering from what this drug does to you.I wish I never took that route.I continue to pay my dues for that decision.I too was abusing painpills before the methodone and there were times willingly or unwillingly that I detoxed from them. For me,withdrawl from the methodone, soooooooo much harder then it ever was from the vicodin. The clinic I went to didn't encourage you to stop either, mommy is right they don't want to lose your daughters money. It is possible to get off methodone, but from personal experience, and others stories you'll see here, theres no easy way to do it.You didn't say if your daughter has made the decision to stop,as with any drug,it ultimately has to be her decision or it's not going to happen. There is some good advice here to help to ease the discomfort of withdrawl and there is more then enough encouragement and support to help keep you going. The truth is getting free from the grips of methodone is a long drawn out process and just like overcomming any addiction your daughter is going to have to really want it to see it through. It is possible to be free from methodone and if thats what she chooses, and I sincerely hope she does,we will all be here for her and you to help see you through .My prayers are with you both.Peace.
