Feeling yucky

close to 24 hours and feeling yucky.Especially back and neck. only 24 hours in. so hard to tell if its pain from coming off pills or true pain. Had Cspine surgery in 2012. used 14-20 norco a day since. just scared and worried. and venting. Had to put my beloved chihuahua down yesterday and feeling sad about that. Hope you all are well. Thanks for all the help and support. I have been reading on here every minute since my decision to stop these horrible pills. You all help so much. Have a great day.

Welcome FREE JEN...and you WILL feel SO FREE, I promise!

The first 100 hours of detox are the worst usually.  Sounds like you have a couple other clean buddies you can go thru detox with here on the forum.  The ones who are detoxing at about the same time you are become SO SPECIAL on this journey.  I have a couple of forum members that are within days or weeks of me.....and it truly does bond you!

I think I read on one of your other posts that you have been reading about opiate induced hyperalgesia.  I didn't know about it either until I found this forum.....I'm convinced that was what was happening to me.  In addition to a really awful car wreck in 2008, I also had spinal surgery...but mine was in June 2011....and I made the commitment to get clean in June 2012.

Your pain will initially get worse....sorry....but that's the truth of the matter.  Your/our opiate receptors are bare for the first time in a VERY LONG time....and it's like ripping a band aide off.....they are raw and exposed...therefore, the explanation for rebound pain.  I think you will find if you give yourself time to heal.....you will feel much better than on high doses of narcotics.  We also have opiate receptors all up and down our spine, in our guts....and neurotransmitters in our brain that haven't worked "naturally" while ingesting pain meds.

Hang on with all you've got.....knowing a week from now.....you will have the worst behind you (physically).  Getting totally rid of your pills (not having someone hold them) is something you need to consider doing.  Once you get thru a few days....your brain will SCREAM at you for pills...and if you know your Mom has them....well.....you know the rest of that story.  It will make it much easier to eliminate ALL pills, cancel all upcoming RX's....tell your doctor and cut off any other sources.

We truly do have to go thru the nasties to get to the goodies....but it is SO WORTH it....a FREEDOM like no other.  Then you can think about some form of after....care.  For an addict, even once our bodies detoxify....our brains will chatter...and we will have stress triggers....so the support AFTER the detox is a critical component of STAYING clean~
Welcome aboard.....glad to have another Kansan traveling this recovery road :)

Hey there Jen! I just saw on your page that you are from my neck of the woods. (I live in KCMO.) I just wanted to congratulate you on making the decision to change your life! I also suffer form chronic pain and it took me much longer than 24 hrs to see my true pain levels. For me, the first 2 weeks after quitting were the worst, then my pain slowly started to improve. We are so 'raw' and feel a lot of rebound pain until our brains start to heal and produce those endorphins naturally. Time, time, patience, and more time is what it takes. You will get there as long as you don't pick back up. Most people find that after a little time free of opiates, they have much less pain than they did on them. Hang in there and keep pushing forward. Stick close to the forum, because there are a lot of great folks who will show you love, wisdom, and support. I'm cheering for you!! Good luck!

I'm  just a few hours behind you. I too had spinal surgery in 2012, but I have to get off of these pills. I've been at work, and have literally been on this site almost all day reading, passing time and writing down things to try. I'm paranoid of what tonight is going to be like...but, obviously, by reading the posts, many people have done this and are far better off..
