I have been crying all day and feel like I have hit the floor depressed. Is this normal on your first  day trying to go without pain pills?

sorry to say, but this is quite normal especially for your first day of wds. After to seeing what doses you were taking daily and the length of time, I dont see the need to put yourself through this whole mess for a whole week and then some by just up and quitting cold turkey like that, it inst necessary. Now I dont recommend with the amount you were using and the form of opioid to go on treatment meds like suboxone or methadone, that is really unnecessary, what you need to do is to taper down your dose before going cold turkey. You will be truly shocked at what a difference that will make in how you feel and the management of your wds.
What I would recommend is to not to just stop taking norcos all at once and out yourself through more hell than needed at all. Its silly.
What you need to do is to start to come down on your dose, slowly so that your body and opioid receptors can adjust to the difference in dose. I would say take 4 norcos throughout the day for 3 days, then take just 3 of them for another 3 days, if you are feeling edgy at that point maybe take 3 norcos for 5 days, but give your body a chance to adjust itself before the big drop.  Then after those five days just take 2 norcos, wait until you feel your body has adjusted properly, then cut down to just 1 tablet per day, and you can decide how you take that on your own, you can maybe take half in the morning and then the rest alter in the afternoon or at night, whatever you feel most comfortable with.
Then after being on just one norco a day cut down to a half a pill and then a few days later, your body will have fully adjusted itself down to that amount of hydrocodone in your system.
Now here is where you have some options, and they are fully up to you, but the last thing that you would want to happen is to say the hell with it and go right back up to using 5 to 10 norcos a day. You just went through a short tapering schedule and quitting that and going right back on them would be such a huge waste. What you were able to do by slowly tapering down like that is allowed your body the ability to feel normal with such a small amount of hydrocodone in your system, which in the long run is the what you want. Once you are down to that low of an amount like a half of a norco a day, you will be infinitely times more prepared to get off and stay off of opioids for good. Once yous top taking the norco all together if you went slowly enough and gave your body time to adjust then you should not go through any physical wds or anywhere near the severity of mental wds like you described above. That is often a big mistake for opiate addicts when they decide to go cold turkey or to quit that they are on a certain dose for such a long period of time that when they jsut stop taking the drug, your body runs into a state of panic, and the wds will seem way way worse than they truly are.
Now since the dose you were taking wasn;t very high some people could just stop taking 5 norcos, deal with the week of discomfort and wds, the mental cravings, anxiety, and depression, but most others cant and that is normal. It makes no sense to put your body through something soo horrible for no reason at all.
What you can do is slowly taper down your daily dose of norco and Im telling you from lots of personal experience and from others that if you give your body time then you will not endure the severe bouts of depression, crying, anxiety, and physical symptoms that come with sudden cold turkey WD from opiates.
When you are slowly tapering down if you are feeling discomfort or signs of moderate to severe depression, or bad anxiety, along with cravings, just know that you are able to go slower on your lowering your daily dose. You are able to decide for yourself if maybe the cut from two to one our from 4 to 3 a day is to fast when day 3 hits, that is fine, what you do is give yourself a few more days and see how you feel after doing that. The tapering schedule will only work if you are going at a rate that your body is okay with and you personally are okay with, that is the only possible way.
Now if you seem to experience physical and mental wd effects no matter how slow you are tapering(which is extremely unlikely, it would be a very rare thing if that would be the case), but in that case, if you have a primary doctor and if you dont if you go see a doctor even at an urgent care and explain what you are doing they will be able to further help along with the tapering process so you dont ever have to deal with the extreme burst of depression you felt.
The doctor after monitoring your symptoms and taking your opiate abuse history will decide if some WD medications would be useful for a short period. Such drugs include clonidine, which is a true godsend for someone in severe opiate wds, it is primarily used as a blood pressure medication, but over the years it has been found to help tremendously in combating opiate wd symptoms, such as restlessness, hot/cold flashes, goosebumps, yawning, muscle spasms, aches, and insomnia. It is truly up their as one of the few truly beneficial medications that can really help treat opiate wd symptoms whether they are mild or severe. Then he can also prescribe a medication that can be used for the insomnia and restlessness for nighttime, which in turn will help quite a bit with your mental stability, as in depressive feelings, constant anxiety and craving for the opiate to make everything feel better, most commonly prescribed is a short term script for a benzodiazepine, which is only used for a short period of time (the duration of wds) because they can turn addictive and make one dependent if you stay on it for a longer period of time that necessary, which would be two weeks at most. Benzos that are most often prescribed for opiate wds include Lorazepam(Ativan), Librium (chlordiazepoxide), Valium (Diazepam), or Klonopin (Clonazepam), but those are only for very brief periods of times to help control some of the wd symptoms. Other than those two the other meds that can be used as WD aids can usually be found over the counter such as an anti-diarrhea med most commonly used Immodium AD and then a medication for nausea or stomach-upset.
Now the medications I just described should only be used if you are having extreme difficulty tapering down or if your symptoms are to severe for you to handle, which if you taper slow enough (on your own bodies clock) then you honestly should be able to avoid WDs whatsoever, you may have a few days where you feel less than a 100% or have some minor discomfort here and there, but there should be no way possible encountering severe physical and mental wd symptoms if you taper your dose down slowly. Those wd aids are used when you are failing at tapering all together or get to a point and the wds are to bad to continue on, but like I said with the opioid of choice and the dose you are at, you should be absolutely fine..You need to stay strong, I really recommend not only going to NA meetings in your area, getting a sponsor, but also seeing an addiction specialist/therapist. They can truly help you deal with and manage any mental problems you may have during wds and afterwards while recovering. Opiate addiction is a daily battle that last for the rest of your life, it is up to you to control it, stay clean and sober, and believe that you are able to beat this disease. I wish you the best and if you have any other questions or just want to talk or vent I am always around, Christos

crying and depression are a huge wd symptom for me.  i cried my eyes out yesterday, my depression was horrible but it DOES get better!!!  today i feel a whole lot better and this is just day 4 for me.  you have to give yourself the room to get through the wd's, there is just no way around it.
hope you feel better tomorrow, stick with it, you'll see!  if you go back, like i have done numerous times, you will get even more depressed and have to go through this whole cycle again
take it easy

wow, you sound just like me, I am on day 3 (just started day 3 at 6, heh) so I know how you feel. I felt dead inside too. One of the BIG reasons I decided to LIVE again. I have become a total loner with a job but no life. I dont want that, and these pills have taken that from me, us. We will have to FIGHT to get whats right back.

I have been taking about 5-10 tens norcos or whatever I can get my hands on for the last few yrs and hardly ever gone a day without.  Every time I start my first day I usually give in.
I have access to more, and it is hard not to get them.  I want this. I really do.  I just feel sad, anxious, depressed and I am pacing all around the house.
I have cut down over the last few days but I guess I am just trying to go cold turkey.  i have no plan I am just sick of being on them I feel dead inside
