Loritab addiction

My boyfriend is 47 years old and he has been taking Loritab 5 for the last three months. He said he has been going through withdrawals from the pills and that it has made him weak. He said he was taking 3 to 4 pills a day. Would he have major withdrawals with shakes and throwing up from the withdrawals of taking these pills for 3 months or is it likely that he was taking something else to? I have never experienced this before and others that have are telling me that he had to be taking something else along with the tabs for it to cause so much pain and sickness withdrawals to be as bad as they are. He is telling me that he can't take the pressure of life right now because he has to get better. Please inform me what to do because he is not talking to me much, he is withdrawing himself from me and I feel like he is not telling me everything. Can you please tell me more about the addiction so I will understand what he is thinking and going through?

Thanks
Sincerely

it's going to get worse before it gets better you may have to go to a hospital tonite.they will at least stabilize you and hopefully give you a small script until you can see a doctor

Hi, Merry Christmas to you and your boyfriend I started on loratab 5's then to 7.5 and then 10mg taking a final daily dose of up to 50 per day. I have been a Paramedic for 17 years now and suffered a series of injuries while on duty this started my useage. It would be a educated guess that if he is truly taking 4-5 5 mg pills a day for 90 days that it would be a multi-level side effects causing his problems.

1. I would get him to his medical provider ASAP sit down and tell him whats up, lack of communication can kill you if its not taken care of first.

2. Call you local detox unit as well hydrocodone is a hard drug to detox from they have a program set up that works. Here he will get a 360 approach to whats causing the behavior and they will be able to rule out addiction versus chemically coping or maybe he is severly depressed as well, people with chronic pain also suffer from all sorts of depression this will also cause his whole metabolism to be messed up.

3. This could be as simple as the narcotic levels are not enough to sustain the amount of true muscular/skeletal pain he is in in simple terms the loratab taken at the same dose for a certain time may just need to be adjusted upwards to a different dose or a different drug.

I am not a doctor I have 10 years of abuse with my drug of choice like I said I started out with loratab my final doseage 10 yrs later was not 50 pills a day, it was 1600 mg of a combined set of injectable drugs morophine and diludid. I have been clean for 18 months now its a daily battle but with the help of my wife and 2 young kids and God here I am. He is lucky to have you but please talk to a counselor for you too as this addiction monster hits all of us god bless Tony

I stopped my hydrocodone habit of 15-20 pills per day, which I'd been doing for about 7 years.  I stopped cold turkey, under the advice of my doctor.  The first night was horrible -- restless legs/arms/body; I couldn't even sit still enough to take my blood pressure.  Then I went through intense cravings; I had two refills but did NOT consider getting those pills refilled, as I NEVER want to go through withdrawal again.  It took to day 12 before I began to feel normal and happy again, but the tiredness lasted about 2 months!  I will never, ever take another narcotic painkiller for the rest of my life!  They are hell to get off, but YOU CAN DO IT.  Now I'm happier than I've been in years and am no longer a slave to those horrid little pills. I used to go into a near-panic when my prescription ran low, and I'd think up every excuse in the book to get more.  There's no easy way to get off them, but it can be done, and then you're FREE.  YES, you can feel happy again!  Happier than when addicted, I assure you!  Good luck to you all; if you need help, feel free to email me at ***@****.

I am almost to my 30day mark. Do you still have good days and then bad days? I was very dissapointed when I felt really good for a few days then started feeling bad again. My head won't let me be. It keeps hammering the sounds of take another pill. I must say the magor part of the physical w/d is gone. Thank God. Now I just feel i need to get my body back in shape and healthy. I was perscribed the tabs somas and xanax in large doses and quanity for the last 4 years. I really believe i was hooked after the first 3 months.I have gone cold turkey and it was a real hard thing to do. I have a 17 year old son and trying to get through the day and make sure he is doing good was the hardest thing to do. Hot showers and sleep I found very helpful.Although I could not get the sleep without the xanax. I went about 2 weeks with only 2-4 hours sleep.Refilled the xanax and slept like a baby.i felt so much better after a few night of good sleep. I would like to know is it ever going to stop???I mean the ups and downs. They can really throw you for a loop.I find keeping busy even if I feel bad helps. Thank god for good friends. I would not allow myself to even drive for almost 3 weeks. I drive some now but on the bad days I don't. I feel i have hurt myself bad enough don't want to hurt someone else. This forum helps so much. Thought i was alone until i found this site, I would love to have someone to talk to that is going through the same thing. Sincerly tomsand

Thank You so much for your help. It really helps me to understand what he is experiencing. I don't think he is taking any other meds other than maybe tylenol. I do remember him saying that the tylenol helped with the affects of the tabs. When he started back on the tabs about three months ago it was work that caused a lot of stress now I think its the committment of a relationship but hopefully he will talk to me in due time about it. Right now I believe I am going to try and be understanding as much as I can and let him come to me when he wants to talk and listen to him when he does. He did call me this morning and he is beginning to sound better so I still have some hope.

Thank You so very much

Sounds like he wants to get off them, but is afraid that life will suck once he does.  Life sucks while your on them too, you just don't feel it as much.  I used vicodin to get through each day, used them for the energy and how good they made me feel.  I am on 31 off of them.  Funny how we still count the days, like someone who has quit smoking and they count how many day.  It's hard.  I did it cold turkey and it was hard.  I used this website and used things people suggested.  They all helped.  I ate bananas everyday to help with the leg cramps at night.  I wish I would have had something to help me sleep, so that I could get some sleep to function better in my day to day life. I work full time and am raising my 7 year old grand daughter.  So laying in bed wasn't acceptable for me.  I was also trying to not let people know what I was going through.  Drink lots of fluids, gatoraide helps put things back into your body that you need, water and a good vitamen helps replentish things your body needs too.  Good luck and I will be thinking about you and him.  Withdrawls are tough and people give up many times.  I wanted too also, but am still hanging tough.  Today is one of those tough days and like I said, it's been 31 days.  I don't have the physical withdrawls anymore, but I still dream of vicodin and still think about them.  Glad to be over the sweats and chills.  I was so cold.  Hot baths/showers or better yet hot tubs will help him with his body aches.  God Bless

Is he taking any other Rx medication? To be honest - everyone is different (as far as your body/system/reaction). So this is tough to answer - although what you describe sounds 100% like WD from Rx medication. The Rx he is taking is the commercial label for a prescription combination that includes hydrocodone which makes it a narcotic in the opioids family along with heroin, morphine, Vicodin and others.
I was 100% dependent on a pain medication and I had to get help via my doctor to wean off the medication - although I was taking much higher doses for a long period of time. I would suggest that you dive deeper into what is so difficult or may be causing him stress or anxiety. I used my medicine to 'escape' and because it made everything numb (reality of life). May not be what he is experiencing but worth diving into.
