METHADONE QUESTION!!!

I HAVE BEEN ON METHADONE NOW FOR 13 YEARS FOR FIBROMYALGIA AND R.A. I STARTED @ 60MGS DAILY. AND GOT AN INCREASE TO 240MGS FROM 60MGS ALL IN 1 MONTH! AND WAS ON THAT DOSAGE LEVEL 4 OVER 3 YEARS! THEN SUDDENLY MY DOCTOR WAS INVOLVED IN A LAWSUIT CONCERNING A WOMAN OVERDOSING DUE TO TAKING METHADONE AND KLOPONINS TOGETHER. WHICH I AM PRESCRIBED TOGETHER AS WELL. SO HE STARTED ACTING DIFFERENTLY AND HE CUT MY METHADONE DOSE  IN HALF! WHICH MADE MY PAIN OUT OF CONTROL AGAIN! I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL TIMES MYSELF TO *** OFF METHADONE AND I HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESFUL EVERYTIME! I HAVE DONE TONS OF RESEARCH AND I DONT SEEM TO FIND ANYONE WHO WAS SUCCESSFUL WHO IS ALIVE THAT ACTUALLY GOT OFF OF IT! THERE ARE NO SUPPORT GROUPS FOR PEOPLE IN THE TOWN I LIVE IN. THERE ARE N.A. SUPPORT GROUPS BUT METHADONE IS IN A GROUP ALL BY ITSELF IF U ASK ME! MY DOCTOR NOW HAS ME ON 70MGS DAILY OF METHADONE FROM 240MGS IN LESS THEN 6 MONTHS! AND I HAVEN'T HAD A DAY THAT I HAVE FELT RIGHT OR GOOD SINCE THEN! IF THERE IS ANYONE WHO CAN OFFER ANY SUGGESTIONS I WOULD APPRECIATE IT ALOT!

HI and welcome to the forum....I was put on methadone for pain management also..started at 30mg and over a 6 1/2yr period wound up at 150ml and then it quit working all together
I was left in pain and with a huge addiction...I successfully got off it 272 days ago and it was one of the best decisions of my life...the only proper way to get off the stuff is to do a taper
you can tell by your symptoms already it can be difficult but your taper has been to fast
it took me 8 1/2 mo to taper off of 150 and I did it a lot faster then they wanted me to do it
most clinics go by 5ml a week in the higher doses then by 2ml a week in the lower doses
I have a formula from a neo/natal nurse that brings babys off heroin methadone oxy ext
we dont post taper schedules in the open forum but I can send it to you threw the messenger...I figured if it was safe for a baby it would be safe enough for me...it worked fairly well for the most part...but you really need to let your body be the final judge in when to drop dose....as for my pain...I live with 2 herniated disks and 3 deteriorating
and now that im off the narcotics im in less pain then when I was ever on them your pain clock sorta resets itself after some time and things that dident work b/4 now manage my pain...I get by on 800mg of ibuprofine it dosent work perfect but it does take the edge off enough better then the narcotics....methadone was a good pain killer for me for many years but after going threw the detox im sorry I ever started it...it is one of the most difficult narcotics to get off of but it is doable with a proper taper schedule...I can help you get off it but you have to want it bad...there is no completely comfortable way of getting off it but if tapered correctly the withdrawals can be managed ...you have to be in it for the long haul not only wile tapering but the recovery is typically around 90 days
from my own experience as well as other I have helped...if your sick of being sick and sick of being chained to the stuff...I have made a commitment to help anyone I can break free of the stuff...life is so much better methadone free...you dont realize just what the stuff been doing to you till your off it..im living proof it can be done and there are others also...you may find that your pain is a lot more manageable off of narcotics my story is not unusual many on this forum have found out the same thing once you break the narcotic chain all of a sudden your pain level goes way down...your brain craves the narcotics if all it has to do is send a pain signal to get it it will it is a vicious cycle
I hope you decide to break free...I will help you along the way...just let me know if you want to try it the right way...I will check back tomorrow to see what you answered good luck and God bless.....Gnarly

If you intentions are quitting period I can offer some advice. I'm not a doctor so I can't offer continued comfort advice. If the first is what you seek what I can tell you is that the only way you will ever get clean is to go cold turkey. You won't die. You may feel like it but you won't. Methadone is heavy. I had a friend die from it. Accidental overdose in the middle of the night. There are people who have recovered from Methadone. The reason you "don't feel good or right" is the exact same reason anyone taking opiates don't when they either stop or drop a substantial amount in does. @ James up above. That's awesome. Every day is another day you get your life back.

Welcome to the forum. The first question I have is are you wanting to quit or are you searching for other answers? If you have a legit long term pain and need control you might try the pain management forum.
If you are trying to quit your in the right place. I'm not knowledgeable on methadone except that it is a real tough and longer process then the regular opiates like oxys or vicodin. All things are doable though.

Hey H.S
Thats a lot of methadoneto get cut by all in the spaceof a month. I know a few ppl who got of there methadone programs , it just takes time, and lots of effort by you my friend. W/DS are not nice but it can be done. I went cold turkey from a 13 year heroin habit im now 141 days clean. It takes a lot of hard hard work but very doable. I think your doctor is running scared after the law suit. But this is about you and yo getting clean i think a taper wold be more suitable for you . Make a plan get the things you will need vitamins ect look at the thomas recipe bottom left hand side of the page Good luck my friend ,,,,,,James,,,,,,,
