Good to hear from a new NA member on here. I go and it has saved my life. Surround yourself in as much recovery and recovering addicts that you can find. For us addicts who've finally become sick and tired of being sick and tired, working a program of recovery becomes the most important mission in our lives or there is no life. Keep posting on here and let us know how it goes.
Can I ask you some questions privately thru a message?
Hey good to see this post.....so what is n/a?? it is a group of people that help each other stay clean....when you first get there you will be welcome with a hug and be around like minded people... for the first time in your life you will be around people that understand what your going threw as people share at the meetings you will see there are a lot of people that think just like you Addiction is a disease it will not go away on its own it will come back with a vengeance when your weak this is a progressive illness that only gets worst with time we address our self's as addicts taking the focus off of what we used and making the group autonamis with Na you will learn new life skills to cope with life on life's terms the meetings will help but the root of the meetings is about recovery and that is where the 12 steeps come in...I rarely see a addict fail that has submerged them self in the program if this works for a old dope fiend like me it will work for you.....so the biggest hurdle is getting the courage up to go you may have to step out of your comfort zone give it a try most city's have more then one meeting I go to 4 a week it helps keep me grounded and is a cheep price to pay to stay clean I cant over emphasize how critical this is you do have a choice you can keep doing what your doing and have the disease progress it only ends in jails institutions or death the meeting are only a hour long most people show up early to fellow ship and stay after the meetings...as a new comer you are the most important person there we cant keep it if we dont give it away I hope this takes care of some of the fears and apprehensions if you have question please feel free to ask me this program changed my life some thing counselors shrinks pastors and even a substance abuse counselor could not do...................Gnarly
"Can someone tell me what it's like to go"
Depends on what kind of NA meeting you go to. Some are book studies. Some are speaker meetings where you listen to someone tell their story. Others are open meetings where people take turns sharing. People are generally very friendly at meetings and will receive you with open arms. If you haven't been to one...go check it out.
"can I ask questions? "
Not during the meeting but before, during a break, or after the meeting you can.
