Narcotic pain med help

I am a young bareback rider in rodeo. I got hung up on a horse and broke my hand and tore everything in my knee. I had to have 7 surgeries since last September when it happend and have been on lortab and Percocet this whole time. I have had my final surgery and the doc Told me they are going to start tapering me off the pain meds. I take about 10 Norcos a day (lortab with less acetametphin) I know I have a problem and I want to get off of these things before I was prescribed these I had never tried any drug and haven't done anything besides these but I want to go back to my clean life I know many others are worse than me and my problem may seem small. I am religious and believe I can quit but if anyone has any advice for me that would be great. Rodeo is my life and I think since I don't have the rush of riding that is why I turned to these please help!

It sounds like you have enough motivation and are determined. It is good that your Dr. Is involved and can help taper, hopefully your wds will be minimum. I was taking around 90-120mg/ day. I have been clean for almost 3 weeks. It is just a day to day thing, it does get better! Just stick by for support :)

Hi and welcome! Are you taking the pills for legit pain or are you finding yourself taking them for the high/buzz/emotional reasons? There is a difference between addicted and dependent and if you've had 7 surgeries in the past year then needing pain pills is understandable. Just talk to your doctor about your concerns and follow the taper schedule strictly. Do you feel like you can taper? Getting off pills feels sooooo good. The beginning is a little hairy but definitely not as bad as you pump yourself up for. You'll be just fine. Just follow your doctor's advice and remember that life is so much better without depending on a little pill to make it through the day:). Good luck and keep posting!

Thank you all for your support! I do still have legitiment pain 6 of the surgeries were on the left knee. Sometimes though I feel like I just take them to take them but I am definitely ready to be off them I have met the most amazing girl and I want to be clean so I can be my best for her. I have gone a few days without them before and had minor withdrawals but nothing to serious but the thought of being completely off them is a little strange to me after a year of use. Can't wait to be clean and hope the tapering works thank you all again!!

I am very Proud of you to be in-tune with your self..Oh yes get that Dopamine Pleasure Surge from Riding in the Rodeo!!
Just make sure you drink lots of water and keep pumping them vit/min so you can replenish what the pills take from us..Also keep those Electrolytes up. I have a feeling you will come out of this in no time. If you are young it makes it easier to bounce back. Make sure that you do keep up some kind of exercise like swimming or riding a bike whatever you can do, because this helps get the Brain Chem going again or helps balance it back..Keep up the good work and we are here to help you if you need us..
