Nasal Spry Addiction

Well now for some odd 20 yrs, I have used OTC nose sprays. This came about from being very sick and was very clogged up. I have had a nose surgery from being told my problem was that my nasal passages were blocked by my nose cartilage. So laying awake on a surgical table the Doctor cut pushed and pulled bits of my cartilage out of my nose, believe me when I say that is an experience I do not wish to repeat. I am now here addicted to nose sprays and It has come time for me to get off of them but a cold turkey approach is not possible because of a throat issue that has come up, go figure!! I have done some reading and found information on "Sinus Buster", Lmigran "Nasal spray", "Polaromin", "Rhinocort", and "Aerius". Do any of these really work??? A few of them are not available where I live and would have to be imported, money money money, Before I spend a small fortune on any remedies that don't work, I really would like to know if any of these do work. My last ENT Doctor will do nothing for me, will not even try so it is up to me, myself and I to try and get off the spray's..

I never said it wasn't real.I've never heard of it was my point.I guess if there are"millions" of people addicted to it it's not uncommon.I still think it's TLC deserved though..

Weirdest **** I've ever heard..Theres a TV show on TLC that features people with out of the ordinary addictions. No doubt this should be on there.I never realized peeps got addicted to nasel spray.Hopefully you kick the habit.Good luck.I'm guessing your throat condition has emerged bc of the nasel spray.

I meant to post but sent you a message instead yes your GP can prescribe the Medrol pack and it comes in genetic form and is inexpensive. It really works. I did that and have been off Afrin for many years and I use to use it everyday, felt I couldn't breathe without it. Best of luck to you. Some ENT's do have samples of the sprays if they feel that's best for you.

Hello, Thank you very much for your reply. I have done some checking on-line and came up with a few other medicines that are or were told to me to require a script but it seems a script is not required for (Polaromin/Polaromine, spelling depends on where you live.. The land down under, it has the "e".
What I have read about the drug sounds good but it seems to have some drawbacks..I also have not checked the price yet.. Getting another ENT is an option that I am also considering and he might give me a script for a drug that will have a high price tag as well. It always seems if a Doctor who does only a certain type of Doctoring they always manage to come with a high price tag and so does anything they prescribe. I will do some more checking however, it is past time that I got off the Nose sprays and one way or the other I will succeed, regardless of what the ENT has told me..  I will mention to my GP about the Medrol pack..
Thanks very much..

Get a new doctor, either a Medrol pack or a nose spray called Asterpro should help you tremendously. Best of luck to you

I had a friend who was addicted to nasal sprays and she did it one nostril at a time.  It took about 2 weeks for her to do this and she is feeling good now and her nose is back to normal.  She started out at 3 puffs a time and slowly cut back.  Hope this helps a bit.
