New here and not sure what to do.

Hello I am new here, I have been taking darvocets and hydrocodones off and on for 2 years now due to a car accident. I realized about a week ago that I was addicted. I ran out. I went through withdrawals. I am on day 6 and I still feel crummy. How much longer?  I want to become totally free of this.......I have a refill that I can pick up today but I am trying my hardest not to get in the car and go get it. I tried to talk to my dr. and she made me feel like i was a looser. She put me on celebrex.....and told me no more refills on pain pills which is good. I am sorry I am rambling. First time I have had anyone to talk to about this. I have a wonderful husband and two beautiful children. I work full time and have a wonderful career. I can't bare to loose any of that. I guess I need some advice, reassuring, anything? Has anyone been on celebrex? I commmend everyone that has went through this.....everyone that I have read about on here is amazing.

Try a Goody's Powder (like BC but better) and something like Advil Sinus.  It seems to help a little for me.  I had to break down and go to the doc yesterday.  It was so bad and I broke out in a rash all over my arms.  I'm even running fever.  Anyway, grab some of those at the store.  I bet they will help a little!!! : )

Celebrex is a strong long lasing anti-inflamatory drug, its like Ibuprofen but less harsh on your stomach. It might take a while for you to get all the benefits from it. Its non-addictive and works really well. Good luck!!!

Ok just called and canceled the prescription.
No more hydrocodones...wow that was hard.
Ok I am gonna look up now the amino acid protocol.
If I could just get over the sinus headaches....did anyone else have an issue with those or do I just have a cold?

I can't comment on the celebrex but can on the pain meds. I too started taking pain meds due to an injury. I never had a problem with anything before but over time I became addicted. Don't let your doctor make you think you're a looser because you are not! She was the one prescribing these to you so she should have been there to help you through this. She needs to realize that if anyone is on narcotic pain meds long enough their body will become dependent on them. It would even happen to her! If she said things that bothered you I would either talk to her about it or find a different doctor that you are comfortable with.
You are smart for wanting to quit now. Narcotic pain relievers are not a good choice for treating long term pain. As our tolerance grows we keep needing to take more and more. As time goes on they no longer work but we continue to take them to keep from getting sick.
If you get that refill this past 6 days will be a complete waste. The worst of the withdrawals usually lasts around a week or so. The lack of energy and insomnia are usually the last symptoms to ease up. You are so close to putting all of this behind you. Call the pharmacy right now and tell them you no longer want the refill and to cancel it for good. They will understand without you having to explain and they will commend you for doing so. If you don't cancel the script they will just keep calling your name until the temptation gets the best of you.
There are some things that can help with the withdrawals. If you look in the health pages here you will find the amino acid protocol. The health pages are located in the upper right hand side of the page. The amino acid protocol lists a bunch of vitamins and supplements that will help speed up the recovery process and just make you feel better all around. Since you are on an antidepressant I believe there are a few of the supplement that you can't take. I think it's the S-ame and the 5htp. It will explain to you what not to take. Also be sure to eat healthy, push the good fluids, and exercise. I feel exercise made the biggest difference. It helps your body to start producing those natural endorphins again. (While using our body stops producing the "feel good" chemicals because it is getting the "feel good" feeling from the opiate. Once we stop the opiate it takes our body time to start producing again and this is what causes withdrawal.) I know it can be hard to muster up the energy to do so but force yourself even if it's just a short walk around the block at first. You will soon find out that exercising does make a big difference and you will walk farther and farther each time.
Be sure to stick around this forum and post for support. There are some wonderful people here who will not judge. The support from this forum makes a world of difference. I know I couldn't have done it without everyone here!
Just keep fighting through this. I know how difficult it can be but I promise it feels so much better not living in a fog any longer. If you need anything, please let us know!
Best of luck!

Brian

Welcome to the site, there is a wealth of experience and compassion here.  From your post, it appears that you have an extremely important step in admitting it to yourself and your physician.  That is huge, and is also a good thing that the door is closing on the refill opportunity, however, many of us resorting to obtaining them indirectly or illegally, so it is important that you address your issue as it faces you.

I have no experience with Celebrex, but I am sure someone will come along and point you in the right direction.  No matter what the Dr said or how it made you feel, realize that you are not a loser.   Opiate addiction is much more common than you think and the most important thing for you at this point is your response and willingness to recover.

That script will continuing calling your name, might I suggest you considering cancelling it or just picking it up and having someone hold them for you if you are considering a taper process.  I never try and tell anyone what to do because we all have our own paths, just share experience and possible options.

One thing I am sure of, and that is you should keep coming to this site, reading other's stories and encouraging yourself.  This process is very tough, but at the same time it can be very liberating.  I wish you the best.

You should be through the worst part.
If you get the re-fill you will have to do it all again! Try the amino acid protocol, that should help some.
Hang in there a few more days ....it will get better!

Hi!  Don't pick up that refill.  Get on the phone and cancel it now!  You're just going to have to go through the whole process again if you get it.  You will be feeling much better soon.  I know it's hard, but you are on your way already!  Don't go back!!!

Are you exercising?  Sleeping ok?
