Benzo taper

Hey guys.

So I've been on xanax or ativan for anxiety since about last October.  The most I've taken is 1 mg of xanax a day (split into .5mg twice a day) The Ativan I know I took 2x a day but honestly dont remember the dose. My doc switched me from ativan to xanax about 2 weeks ago.

I was taking Prozac at the same time and took a .5 pill and completely passed out sitting up at my desk. I have since ended the prozac (was only on for about 2 weeks), and have been taking .25mg of xanax 1-2x a day for the last 2 weeks. I was down to one .25 for a few days, and then  Yyesterday I didn't take any and today started to feel out of it, a little dizzy, and had some of that weirdo "things dont seem real" stuff going on. So I took a .25

I'm honestly not sure that now is the best time for me to be stopping this, because my anxiety isn't great, but I really don't want to have a long term benzo addiction.

Should I just keep on the .25 day for a while? And then would it be ok to stop from .25, or do I need to go down another step? I know I'm not talking about huge doses or anything, but I do want to eventually rid myself of all medications.

You want to taper as far down as you can with benzo's.  Take it slow so your body can used to the lower dose.
