Foot pain unbearable , what to do

My feet ache so bad it's not even funny.  I've wrapped them up in icy hot with an ace bandage. Soaked them in hot water. I'm in so much pain. Please someone help me. I have no history of foot issues. Only since coming off the pills :(

It's a tricyclic antidepressant and is primarily used to treat symptoms of depression but is prescribed and used "off label" a lot too.  One of those off label uses is for nerve pain and neuropathy.  It works on the central nervous system (CNS) to increase levels of certain chemicals in the brain.

It's always good to make informed decisions before putting ANY new drug into our bodies.  We're not saying you will be prescribed this med....just sharing our experience.  Let us know how it goes, ok?

It's a med used to treat nerve pain (non narcotic)  A lot of people swear by it but a lot don't tolerate it well (like me and Connie)  It's likely your doctor will prescribe it to you or suggest it as an option.  Just do your research- just cuz a drug isn't addictive doesn't mean it is going to be a good option for you.

Wait I'm confused, what is amitripyine?

I have to chime in with Connie and say yes beware of the amitripytline.  I took it the first time I detoxed off opiates for 6 months as a pain alternative for my nerve pain.  It helped the pain, a bit, but it made me so depressed, lethargic, dizzy, and fuzzy in the head that I didn't get out of bed for 3 months.
I hope you get some relief Shawnee.  I really do believe it's from the tram withdrawal.  I have a close friend trying to taper off them (she's been on for 10+ years)  She's having a heck of a time....Even cutting one pill makes her feel awful, and causes severe RLS and pain in her legs and feet.  I wish I knew how to help her...I guess it's like anything else, the only way out is through....
Hugs,
Lu

What day are you on now, Day 10?  A lot of the pain in our extremities is caused from the beating our central nervous system takes while ingesting opiates.
The mechanism in the nervous system that regulates blood flow to these heat exchange areas is dysfunctional when we first get off opiates.

I know you are now living in a different state from when you got the hydrocodone back in 2013 and you have told your current dr of your addiction history......but maybe give it more than a week or two to detox to see how you feel, huh?
The lock jaw you spoke of happened to me on a particular AD I was on....and the Tramadol has an AD component to it.  Is your jaw better now?  Do you keep your feet elevated?  Some of this is just "waiting" and "cleansing".  I have severe neuropathy in my hands and feet now....
and some of it is from opiate w/drawal and healing and some of it is from  being on an AD of some kind for over 12 yrs.
Are you on an AD of any kind now?    I went on amitripytline as an attempt to help me with chronic pain and subsequent depression.....and while it did help immensely with my feet and hands.....I couldn't handle all the other side effects so went off of it.  Just wanted you to be aware of that drug before you see your dr on Thursday.
It's important to research ANY drug we put in our bodies once we know we are addicts.....and make our own personal decision about taking it.  I'm sure you have already come to that conclusion after being addicted to hydrocodone and then taking the tramadol.

I hope you'll give this some time.....and also that you will seek some counseling regarding the loss of your brother.  It will make going into a new marriage so much better for you.
Let us know how it goes at the dr on Thursday, ok?  Wishing you the best~

I felt like I walked a hundred mikes over hot asphalt. My feet kept me awake too, but it went away. Doctors visit won't hurt, but my instinct is you just have to wait it out. No history of foot issues, started after you quit, city pain increased as RLS passed, sounds exactly like what happened to me. I was on a synthetic too, methadone, I am going to study and see if the foot thing is worse with synthetics. I know it takes longer to detox for sure. I started watching my blood sugar real close, I know diabetes causes so e issues with extremities. The cal/mag/zinc 400% RDA morning and night really helped me. You want to cut back the magnesium after detox, but I believe most of us are malnourished from drugs, no matter how good we eat. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Shawnee, im sorry your in so much pain. I would try menthol and eucalyptus in water while soaking and massaging your feet at the same time. Or my favourite one- get some Vicks Vapor Rub or generic brand and smear it onto your feet massaging it in, then put socks on and elevate your feet with a pillow. Wishing your discomfort eases : )

Oh shoot sorry- just re-read your post (thought it was a continuation from yesterday) and saw that you've never had foot problems before.
I would say this is your bodies last hold out for the trams.  Don't give in.
Wishing you some peace and comfort- you deserve it.

Did you have any foot problems before?  When we go through detox we feel EVERY injury we've ever had.  I remember how bad my tailbone hurt.  I broke it when I was 21- I detoxed at 33.  Try to use some imagery (I know this may seem flaky but worth a try, right?) Imagine that your poor aching feet are the last place that the devil trams are hiding out.  Lay in bed, close your eyes, and imagine the poison flowing out of the soles of your feet.  Try soaking them in hot water with epsom salts, then putting them in cold water, the into luke warm water to even out.
Are they swollen?
Honey I feel for you.  I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and when I was detoxing I literally felt like every bone in my body was breaking.  If it's still terrible by your doctor app't on Thursday- ask for some Toradol.
This is an AMAZING drug for pain (short term)  It's a powerful NSAID and completely non- addictive.  They will probably only give you a one or two day supply which should see you through the last of the worst of this.
I am laying here with a swollen belly in absolute agony from my severe endometriosis.  I swear I would beg borrow or steal for a shot of Toradol right now (:

YOU WILL GET THROUGH THIS.
Sending big hugs...

You may need to go to the doctor.  I would call and talk to a nurse at least.

I've taken the hylands yes. But I'm way passed the RLS part. The only physical issue is my feet.

I've taken the vitamins, I have my feet tightly wrapped in ace bandage. I wonder if I should go to the doctor or if I'll be okay?

Have you tried the Hyland products?  I started the RLS and leg cramps meds from Hyland and so far so good.  Also, BioFreeze is great too.

It will go away with time. It might take a little longer since you are coming off of Tramadol. It's totally synthetic and tends to hang on a little longer than the semi synthetic opiates. You are doing great. Please hang on, cause it's going to get better. Have your fiance rub your feet and hopefully that gives you enough relief to get some rest.

I am  sorry you still have this symptom. Try ice if heat hasn't helped. Sometimes alternating ice with heat help.
Are you taking magnesium/ zinc/ calcium supplements?
Have you tried stretching them, walking around?
I hope you feel better soon.
