Oh GOD!! This Hurts! Broken Tooth

I've been on suboxone for over 6 months now.  Well, yesterday, I was eating some sweettarts(my new wekness) and I broke a tooth right in half.  Of course this is my fault, as I had a root canal on it and never got a crown put on, so it was really just a shell of a tooth.
Any way, I'm in  incredible pain.  I've put a call into my psych that prescribes the sub, but he won't be in until tomorrow.  THIS TOOTH HAS TO COME OUT!!
Obviously I"ll be telling the dentist that I'm on sub, but what I"m wondering is what they will give me for pain.  I've loaded up on excedrein , ibuprofun and tylenol and not getting any relief.  I tried to look up alternatives to opiods and mostly found ways to order opiates online and college papers about addiction.
Tramadol is not something that works for me, my sister, a dental hygenist said it might, but I've taken it before.  I'm about to loose my mind in pain and nausea.
Please help if you can
Mandie

sorry it took so long to respond.  I'm assuming you have everything taken care of by now? I asked him and he said that they have not yet learned about suboxene and that he didn't want to advise one way or the other without a professional who's already earned their D.D.S.  He's just a student so probably not as knowledgeable just yet. The only thing he's prescribed so far is percocet, and vicodin and everyone he gave it too was not on suboxene.....  ANyway, let me know how it worked out for you.

Hey,
My fiance is in his 3rd year of dental school.  he's asleep now as it's midnight here but I will ask him about your situation.  I'm positive he'll try to guide you in the right direction. And if he doesn't know for sure than  I'm sure he can ask one of the Dr.s in emergency clinic tomorrow.  I'll get back to you in the A.M.

I work in the dental field and sometimes Root Canals have to have a retreat done because the pain can come back.  There are times that there can be another canal the dentist didn't see the first time (it could be blocked from calcium deposits that form, etc.  So, yes, you could have pain with a cracked tooth that had a Root Canal.

I'm so sorry you are going through this!  Good luck hun!!!  I hope you feel better soon!

Tooth pain to me is just terrible...I am so sorry you are going through this pain...Once i had an abcess so bad, no pain meds helped...But the dentist ended up giving me about 6 shots all around the area, and that was the best feeling in the world...It was numb for like 3 days....I sure hope you can find something to take that pain away!!
prayers going your way!!!

Being in pain has been a concern for me also, with the sub and all, knowing how it blocks opiates, but to my surprise, when i have been in excruciating pain (due to horrible menstrual cramps,  a couple of vicodin did help, I thought for sure they wouldnt.  i have taken percocets and even a morphine pill, i got no high whatsoever, but it did take away the pain.  I dont envy you being a druggie for over thirty years, i know how toothpains can be, especially cracked teeth...ouch, i would get myself to the dentist imediately!

you do not need to take pain meds on sub.
12mgs of sub is equal to a handful of percoects
so if the sub. is not helping with the pain, nothing will
tooth aches are one of those pains that cannot be helped with narcs
try an anti-biotic, with motrin
i am sure you already know this, but the matience drugs like methadone and suboxone kill your teeth
i have been off them for 4yrs and i am still dealing with dental problems that are a direct result of my opiate addiction
i hope you feel better soon, if you decide you want to kick the sub. let me know, i can help you with a taper plan
good luck
