I have to say i feel better physically today. Approaching 48 hrs. Mentally still feel rough. I think i can handle the mental part better than the physical. Last 48 was rough.
just wanted to let u kno i get it. the holiday thing i was in w/d last xmas. not on purpose tho. that was the day i realized i had a problem i couldnt even enjoy watching my daughter open her presents. keep going so u wont b like this on xmas.
Hang it there bro... This is the best decision that you have ever made. It is truely going to change your life. It is a hard journey and at times we feel like we will just quit and die, but you will not. Life is beautiful on this side of addiction. Stay strong! Sunny
You are DEFINITELY not alone! There are addicts EVERYWHERE! We are Doctors, Lawyers, Teachers, Nurses, Students, Judges etc. As I have started to tell people about my addiction I have already heard from 2 of my friends how THEY were also recovering addicts! I had NO idea! So what im saying is, when you think your all alone, I promise you, your not!
Worrying about "how you got into this mess" is something you will need to address at some point so you dont do those things again or let those triggers sneak up on you, but right now for a few days, just get yourself through the rough first few days.

I am going cold turkey. I cant wean myself. I have tried it. I was taking 40 7.5 hydro a month and it has grown to 180 every 2 weeks. Absolutely insane when i think about it.
New people come in daily for help. There are so many opiate addicts. It makes you feel less guilty and less alone reading all the stories.
Opiates are so easy to become addicted too and detox is rough but so doable.

I am so glad i found this site. Its amazing to me how many people actually suffer thru this. I have been on pain killers for 10 years and i wonder how i got into this mess.
Pick up some Hyland's Restless Legs at Walmart when you can. I haven't tried it but lots of people say it works wonders.
Remember the soaks that Teresa suggested. People love to live in the bathtub during detox. I was very jealous not having one.
Give it a try for some relief.
Havent had the energy or appetite to anything today. Took some imodium. That has helped. Yes i do have the restless legs while im trying to sleep. Those are horrible. Thanks for all the advise.

I always forget the hot baths because I don't have a bathtub :(
I also wanted to add Lots of Hot baths to help with the aches in your muscles and the restless legs that most get! And get Vitamins! A multi vitamin is great, but also get B12 if will help with the lack of energy you will have.

It helps so much with the withdrawals and you will need it for bathroom issues. That's about all I can add to Kyle's great advice.
It won't be easy BUT you can do it. I did and so did hundreds of others. One thing - if you have pills, or access to them - then you are stacking the odds against doing this. In a couple of days (if not now) all you will be thinking about is using. You have to put up roadblocks; cut all sources and tell your secret. It is only natural to get mentally weaker as you get physically weaker so you have to remove all access to meds. Cancel refills; flush any stash you may have. I don't want to sound negative but if you have access you will probably relapse.
Thanks for the post. Been on vicodin and oxycodone for 10 yrs. i dont have the energy to do anything today and i have to work all weekend. Not sure how im going to make it.
Welcome. Although at times you may doubt your decision to get clean I can assure you that it's one of the most important things you will ever do in life.
Honestly, detox isn't easy; but there are things you can do to help. Try to eat. Your body is starting on a wild ride and will need fuel. If you can't eat, try drinking Ensure. And drink lots of water. If you are visiting the bathroom a lot, find a drink with electrolytes added. I'll say it again - try to stay nourished. Very important. Then, as soon as you can get some exercise. Short walks. Get out of the house. Finally, a warning. The physical part of detox is hard, but the mental side is what gets to most of us. Don't listen to your head - that voice that says "just one won't hurt". Understand temptation and how it can lead to relapse. Hang in there. Keep posting.
