Oxycontin Withdrawal

I have been taking Oxycontin 20mg 2 to 3 times a day with 10mg Oxycodone for breakthrough pain when needed since January 2006. I started weening myself down to 1 20mg pill a day 4 days ago. My nose runs like crazy and my legs and lower back just ache. Is there something I can do to help this leg ache? I have 8 20mg pills left and many breakthrough pills left. Do I have enough pills left to ween myself off safely? I have a Heart condition with a replacement Aortic valve. The reason I started taking the pain meds was compartment syndrom in my hand from being layed on top of my hand in recovery from the valve replacement. I realize I am not taking the high dosages some are in this forum but it is still pretty miserable. I am a salesman and it's hard to visit customers when you feel terrible. How long do these symptoms last? Thank you for your time.

Hi - sorry for your discomfort.  Have you considered Suboxone?  You can get thru the withdrawal w/o any discomfort and then wean off of the sub quickly (10-15 days) and you'll feel pretty good.  That's how it worked for me.  Some people stay on the Suboxone longer.  If you have to work thru withdrawals, then that's the only route I can think of that will work.  I couldn't hardly get out of bed when in withdrawal, let alone work or do anything like visiting customers.  Good Luck

Hi,

I used pain killers and more than you, but I didn't do a taper.  I tried, but failed too many times.

There are people here familiar w/both oxy and taper.  Weekends are slower than weekdays, so hang around and someone better than me can help.

To answer your question about the runny nose.  Yes, normal, then you'll get a drip that will make you cough & sneeze.  Use cough drops.

For the legs, hot baths, bananas, heating blanket or heating pad, or hot or menthol rubs.  Don't laugh at this, b/c you're a man, but if you have a wife or girlfriend, ask for some knee highs or panty hose.  Put some hot or menthol rub, drape w/tissue and put on hose.  It'll keep your legs warm & helf aches.

These symptoms will go away in just a few days.  Do you have the big D, or the anxiety?  How's your sleep?
