Oxycontin Withdrawl

I have had (10) surgeries in the past 18 months and have to have number (11) this Wednesday. My doctors have me on Oxycontin 20 mg. and Percocet 5/325. Currently I take (1) Oxycontin 20 mg. a day and (1) 5/325 Percocet a day. This does not totally releive my pain but I don't want to increase my dosage.

I have been on the Oxycontin since November, 2008. Prior to that the doctors had me on Vicodin 7.5/750 every 4 to 6 hours. This caused my liver enzymes to rise thus the switch to the Oxycontin. Since my enzymes have returned to normal.

This brings me to my question: I am worried about withdrawls when and if I don't need these medications anymore after this next surgery. I take my medications as directed and do not crush or sniff anything like some of the things I have read on here.

What kind of withdrawl symptoms can I expect and what can I do to ease them?

I commend you for being proactive and getting a plan in order for the day you no longer require pain medication. What a great day that will be living pain free. I personally went into rehab back in 1999 for a 80mg a day addiction. Although I did not make it through the rehab program, I did eventually cold turkey for 5 days. This was not that bad. I felt like Worried878 said, kinda flu like and I was very weak. For me when tapering or w/d it is the weakness that gets me the worst. I have on occasion had restless legs(at much higher doses) but not too severe. Plan on having some moderate anxiety, the runs, nausea and perhaps some vomiting. During my five days of at home detox, I was going every evening to an outpatient NA group. I drove 30 miles each way too with those weak legs. Thank God for cruise control! LOL Just read the other journals and posts on people that detoxed at the strength of oxys you are on. I really believe you will skate through this compared to most. 25mgs is a very very low dose of oxycontin. I believe worried878 has said in the past that w/d is 90% mental. I believe at your dose it is. Now at higher doses, not quite sure I agree with her but she appears to be a strong willed woman. Best of luck and stay with us during this time. Their are AWESOME people on here that will guide you through this.

25 mgs total is not a huge dose in the scheme of things..u have controlled ur use and sound very disciplined..do u plan on ct or a taper?  tapering can be hard for some and ur dose is do-able ct..the thomas recipe and exercise helped me tremendously..read up in the health pages as there is lots of great info there..i used 80-100 mgs a day and my wd lasted 4 days/the physical part/i felt a bit nauseaous but never vomited..runs were bad  but one - 2 imodium woukld stop that..also had a mild headache and slept alot...went to the gym each day ,,day number one/being my worst day and i only worked out 20 minutes but it got longer and longer each day...back to work day 5..for me it was like the flu..i had mild anxiety from time to time and took a small piece of valium for it as needed..i used ambien for sleep...good luck..u r smart to do this now
