Pain Medication Addition

About 4 years ago, I was told that I have moderate to severe RA.  The doctor prescribed Loratab as a pain killer.  I found the drug was very easy to abuse and now for the past 6 months, I have been getting street drugs to include Oxy's.  The money used to buy these is really getting out of control and I want to stop cold turkey, but don't know what the withdraw symptoms will be or how long this will take to get better.  Currently, I am taking either 5 to 6 15mg Oxy's per day or 6 to 7 10mg Loratabs per day depending on what is available.  I am a civil engineer for a small company and probably won't be able to get time off.

Can someone tell me what the withdraw symptoms will be and how long they will last?

hi and welcome to the forum....notordinary gave some good advice...check out the Thomas recipe.....maybe tylenol would help some with the pain??

and i couldn't taper either....i had to go CT......if they were there i'd take them....we can help you thru WDs....it's a tough few days...but just tell yourself you have the flu....that kind of helps....expect no energy....that and trying to sleep....but it does get better after a few days....keep us posted on how you are doing!  congrats on wanting to take control back!

Thanks for the help and encouragement.  I am not sure if I want to involve my RA doctor.  I believe he will want me to taper off the meds.  That will not work for me.  If the pills are available, I will take them.  I am not a weak person, I am just being honest about my weakness to this addition.  My problem is that I really like the high, but I don't want to throw away my life for it.

I am allergic to NSAIDs (aspirin).  Are there any OTC medicines that I can take to lessen the symptoms.

Hi and welcome.
Everyone is different when it comes to wd's. Some have all the symptoms other's only a few. The initial wd's will only last about 3-5 days.
After that it is getting your mind and body right.
Lots of exercise and fluids help a lot.
Keeping busy the first week is so important to getting through the first stage
Force yourself to walk. It will be hard at first. But the outcome is far greater.
Walmart or local drug store sell rls otc meds to help with that.
Vitamins b-12 for energy. It is all in the thomas recipe.
I can tell you, the Thomas recipe at the bottom of the page helps.
Will your doctor help with wd meds?
There are alot of knowledgeable people here to help you through this.
Keep posting and ask questions.
Congrats on wanting your life back.
