People and pain

You know, a thought just came across my mind.  Yeah that happens from time to time lol.

My nick name is from my great black Lab named Cocobean.  Well my cocobean has
had her hind leg broken in 3 places from a fall when catching a frisbee.  She had a metal plate
screws, wire and 3 surgeries.  Did they give her pain meds, NO.  She handeled the pain
like a champ, still try to run with her leg in cast to fetch the ball.  Laughing, playing .

And recently she had cancer in jaw and they removed half of her lower jaw,.  The day
after surgery she was fine, she wanted to eat solid fodds, the works.

Anyway after all of this my point is Maybe I should take a lesson from her and
learn to enjoy and be happy even with the pain.
If I could be half the person that she is the dog, I would be a great person.  But I am not.

I am truly starting to believe I hurt more when flooded with narcotics. I don't hurt as I thought I would. I think it is just about accepting our fate as far as our limitations are concerned not 100% of what dr says it is our bodies If I listened to dr I would not be able to walk across my living room lost 75% mobility and when walking would need some form of assistance.  Mike

Good story!....people's perception of pain varies tremendously...i have found that not dwelling on it helps...go on and live to the best degree i can...i dont want to miss out on anything!

I don't know what is it about Labradors especially. I think they are just constantly stoned with a huge supply of endorphins - which is why they are always so happy and goofy. lol

So sorry to hear your dog has had to go through all that though. We had to amputate my Labs tail a couple of years ago due to cancer, and I think it hurt me more to see a Lab with no tail than it hurt him to be tail-less. He didn't even act like anything was different at all a day after the surgery!

On a serious note, it's too bad they haven't been able to develop endorphin-like narcotics that are non-addicting and non-tolerance forming yet...

lisa,

Whoa !   You said " I would be a great person.  But I am not."

Please, please believe in yourself.  It is so important!  If you cannot find it in yourself to feel that way about your past, then do today whatever it takes to say to yourself tomorrow "I was a great person yesterday". And the next day, "I was a great person the last two days", and on and on.

Ok, good person is probably better.  My best wishes to you!
