Percocet Problem NEED advice please!

Hi everyone.  I had neck surgery just over two years ago and since then I have been on 7.5 mg Percocets 4 times a day.  I used to take them like I was supposed to, but the last couple of months I have been noticing "addict behavior" such as taking too many, running out early, counting my pills constantly, and not feeling secure going anywhere unless I have them with me in my purse.  Even if I'm just going out for a minute.  I overcame a cocaine addiction years ago with God's help and I really value the fact that my priorities have been straightened out.  It took a long time for me to start to like who I am and now when I look in the mirror, I see the old me and it makes me sad.  This month I did REALLY bad and I know I will run out about 8 days early.  I am scared to death about what I will do!?  I don't think I can handle going cold turkey.  I could really use some advice and some friendship right now from someone who understands.  Could someone write me back before I go crazy?   Thanks

Thank you for your advice.  I am actually going to do that...stretch out what I have left so I'll go down from 4 a day to 2 a day.  Then hopefully by the time I get my refill (2 weeks) I will be doing good enough to keep it that way and just wean off a little at a time.  I know alot of people say that cold turkey is the only way it will work but before I get to that point I want to assess my pain level on a lower dose.  I also want to make a Dr. appt. to talk to my doctor about it to see what he thinks.

Also in a similar boat where I was taking percs for herniated disc pain, then more& more. Constantly counting pills, lying to diff Dr's to get multiple scripts, claiming I lost scripts, even having my Ob/gyn giving me scripts for cramps. I never realized it was addict behavior , I thought it was just me being 'clever'! What a joke. I'm so ashamed and Embareased. But back to your question- whether u want to quit or not, I would start spreading out tour meds to last you the extra 8 days. Take less each time and less often so you have enough to make it through. Even if you want to quit, it will make stopping a little easier. If you truly need the meds for pain, then maybe call your dr and explain the pain has been worse and tour current dose isn't helping you. If you have a nice dr that knows you, maybe he will write the script a few days early. Fortunately your dose and strength isn't that high that even id u have WD symptoms, it prob won't be awful. I'm currently weaning myself off and down off 10/325 percs. I was taking 2-3 at a time, every few hours. (15 a day) I'm now taking more like 10-12 a day and trying to reduce it more. It's so hard. I wish I had dine this 6 months ago when I was on your dose. Best of luck and I'm always good at listening :-)

Welcome to the forum!

I think you realize that the "addict behavior" is surfacing and you are starting to see this surfacing more and more each day.

You say you will run out early?  What do you want to do?  Are you asking for help to manage the withdrawal symptoms b/c you want to stop taking this medication or just until you can get your next refill?

If you wish to stop, the withdrawals are uncomfortable but it can be done.  We are here to support you.
