Please help me quit Oxycodone

Hello everyone after reading all the post here I decided to post for myself. I am 55 years old and I have polio, I got polio it nine months old and now suffer with post polio syndrome. I live in chronic severe pain 24 hours a day I take 30 mg oxycodone four or five times a day. I so desperately want to stop all narcotics they're causing me quite a few problems.. Like constipation is the worst, body sweat the and dry mouth, irritability.. I've been on this regiment with a pain clinic for several years now. Two years ago I had a neurostimulator implanted in my spinal cord to help alleviate a great deal of pain yet it could never fully get me completely out of pain.
My question is I would like to stop cold turkey from these oxycodone 30 mg pills if anyone has any suggestions on a better way..
I know there's plenty but I feel like if I just stopped and went through all the withdrawals, the body shakes, the shaky legs, all the other horrible things than come with stopping faster than trying to take a one-week detoxing, I feel like I'm going through this horrible part of my life so alone I would never tell my closest friends what's going on or my family it's a battle that I suffer horribly bad because of loneliness really wish I had someone to talk to someone please reach out to me you can email me at ***@**** Thank you so much everyone.

Woof, please tell your family or someone you can lean on. It's not anything to be ashamed of when you take the pills for real pain and it sounds like you have it big time. I'm 71 and went CT off hydrocodone 10mg 4 or 5 a day. Had been on them about 2 or 3 yrs. It was very hard because like you I have real pain, not as bad I'm sure. I'm now taking Gabapentin 100mg 3X a day. It helps a bunch. But the depression was a killer when I was on the pain pills, and it got to where they didn't work anyway. The first 2 weeks was very hard  and hard on the body as well, but I'm now 5 1/2 months clean!!! I told my hubby I had to get off the pills and he was a rock for me. You NEED someone to help you through this. Listen to all the help that's on here and vent all you want. God Bless you. Sorry this was so long

Hi im really sorry to hear your in so much pain.  I hate to say but the reality is and I don't care what anyone claims or professes. ive been through treatment and was on painkillers for nine years. Nobody comes off of longtime opiate use cold turkey, also it is not healthy and not realistic.  The only time ive seen people successfully stop is by going to detox and having them give you suboxone, subutex, or methadone.  Now honestly I have been on methadone for the past year I am now down to 2 mg a day and ready to be off but its been rough.  I suggest subs and not for long time use bc we don't really need to be its all mental. Wellbutrin helps a lot with withdrawal bc it sends signals producing serotonin so it helps wi wd as does clonidine, Neurontin, and good rest. Eat healthy lots of fruit n veggies. Stay positive be outside and do some breathing exercises, qui gong has helped me a lot.look it up you will understand when you do. you need to generate your natural chi and breathing and movement will do this. Just do it the right way. Im done with needing something it angers me now because ive been dependent on drugs for ten years. im on 2mg of methadone, on my day off I will not take any and wait till it is unbearable then take the 8mg suboxone I have break I into 2mg pieces and ween of that then im finished. best of luck to you. you are never alone. youd be surprised how many people feel alone which is crazy to me because we all can really help each other especially times like these.

Omg hon, I just want to hug you!  I'm sorry that you feel so alone through all this.  I am the same age as you and can only imagine your lifetime of challenges......it's been a long hard road, hasn't it?

All great advice above, but you need to decide what's best for you.  I really wish you would reach out to your family for support too, I think you need someone physically there to emotionally lean on.

W/d's are gonna s*ck whichever way you go hon! that's a reality.  I just want to lend my emotional support to you sweetie, sending huge prayers of hope and perseverance straight to your soul.  Stay close and keep us updated on what you decide to do. If you need to talk you may message me anytime.

"I would never tell my closest friends what's going on or my family"

A kid who lived next door to me when I was only 6-7 years old had Polio and I remember him like it was yesterday.

Don't be so hard on yourself. You're not a junkie, like me, and have had a legitimate reason to have been on narcotic pain meds. It's nothing to be ashamed of.

I admire your resolve to get off pain meds, but going CT is not something I would recommend. I really think you would be better off to confide in your family, quit bearing this load alone, and go inpatient where you could have a nursing staff on hand and do it in relative comfort. Not that it will be comfortable, but maybe they can help you to taper off, and be a lot easier on you than going CT.

Best of luck.

Ct or taper is up to you but either way you can do this. I am like you I am in my 30's but have 2 types of cancer. I decided like you that although I have more than enough pain to go around the pills are more trouble than they are worth. I was on oxycodone 30 mgs 6x's daily morphine dilauded and phentynol. I am 6 weeks clean and did it ct. The thomas recipe helped a lot. Also warm salt baths or showers will help. After day 10 my physical symptoms were pretty much gone but the fog keeps hanging around. I have learned there is going to be pain but atleast I feel again (if you know what I mean). There's a lot of great people here to help encourage you just as they did for me. Good Luck.
