Please some info about withdraws.

I see that you are all very nice and helpful people. I have develope a habit of oxycontin and roxys. I have been on them steady for about three months. I was taking 30 to 60 miligrams a day or every other day. Some days I took more some less. How serious do you think my wds will take. And how severe do you think it will be? I am on day 2 with out. I accually started to feel the diahrrea today and i took a small peice of an 8mg suboxone, probably about 2.5 mg. I plan on not taking anything more. I really have no one i can talk to this about and feel very alone. Also i am so on edge, snapping at the kids and getting so angry over nothing. Please tell me what is ahead of me and how servere and how long will i go through wd? Thank you

Anything I can do to help "yinz" (I fell in love with a 'burgh girl 25 years ago, so I love to hear the yinzers).  We're all in the same boat here, so there are no judgments.  I just hope you can take the leap of faith I took.  The trip can be rough, but the end result is very worthwhile.  You CAN do it.  Just think of how many years you lived without these evil drugs - you were fine without them then and you can be fine without them again.

I don't have the answer to SwtGyrl's question either, but I've been doing it for 30+ days and I'm not dead yet.

You can do it.  I'm on day 27 and am amazed at how much better life is already.  No more counting pills and worrying whether I'll make it to the next refill.  No more hiding, etc.

If it helps any, I did a modified Thomas' Recipe.  I didn't use any pharmaceuticals and added some additional supplements (Magnesium, Potassium and Calcium for RLS and Melatonin for sleep).  Although it was no cake walk, the worst of the w/d's will end in just a matter of days.

Right now feels rough, but this too will pass.  I just keep reminding myself that if I relapse, the past days/weeks will have been for nothing.

I jst read your question and answers.  I agree with all that you have been told.  I would like to add a couple of things.  I am a nurse and have spent over 10 years of my nursing in alcohol and drug rehab.
  1.  The most important thing is not to feel alone.  There are people on the web, there are 12 step groups in almost every town, there are alot of church sponsored groups for recovery that are based on christ.  You may want to check them out.
  2. It is very important that you drink not only alot of fluids but alot of H2O.  Stay away from caffine drinks as they can dehydrate you.
  3. Even if  you feel like it or not eat!!! soup often agrees with people withdrawing It is important to keep your strength up as much as possible
   4. Yes exercose is good but begin slowly and work up.
5,  The medications that we used that were non prescription were:  Immodium for diarrhea, motrin for achey joints, they did use prescription drugs for the nausea and emsis, and the moodiness.  For those unable to get prescriptions they would use arious over the counter nausea meds.  Soda crackers often did wonders.

I also know an item that several patients did was keep a journal of there withdrawl.  Some even went back describing their drug use and how it got out of control.  This helped with them when they were wanting to use again.

Another thought is who prescribed the medication for yoy?  If you feel really sick and can not keep fluids and food down are you able to ask help from them?  Also if it was your primary doctor that prescribd the meds by not telling him you can be subconsciously keeping the door open to get them again.

I would love to help you in anyway I can.  Know there are prayers being said for you.   stubby

This place is a life saver, no lie.

I used to get to day 3 about once a month and then fold so I can understand. Thing is just that little bit longer holding out and you are through the worst, I've been clean 24 days now and I'm NEVER going back.

If you have any pills flush them otherwise they will be too much of a temptation, unless you are stronger willed than me anyway!

Sub is an opiod with a longer half life that the pills you have been taking.  People who wd from sub often have worse and longer wd processes than others, so stop taking the sub.  You may not feel as much discomfort but it is tough to say.  You have already received 2 posts from 2 seperate people that you have not been abusing for that long therefore your wds wont be as bad for as long.  The longer you stay on the pills/sub the longer and worse the wds.  You can really put together 5 days and do this.  I know it is hard to fight the urge to take but you can do this.  Another thing I should mention is that getting clean from the pills initially is easy compared to staying off the pills long term. you will have cravings for a few months, so be mindful. I have to run but I will check back later. Best

Hi and well done on decided to quit that stuff.

As to how bad/long your WDs will be, its hard to give a solid answer, its different for everyone. One thing thats very much in your favour is that you have not been on them very long, usually the longer you use the longer the acute WD stuff goes on for. For most people the worst day is day 3 and you might get insomnia, joint pain, headaches, emotional instability and the diahrrea you mention. Imodium helps with that, theres a lot of other stuff that can help with the other symptoms, see the health pages top right corner for the Thomas Receipe.

Two other things, you will feel shame/depression/guilt. This is the WD talking so try to ride through it while your brain chemistry is messed up, its perfectly normal and don't beat yourself up! Other thing is if you ae trying to go Cold Turkey you need to avoid taking any more drugs as it will only prolong the WD in my opinion.

Things will get slowly more unpleasant till you reach the worst bit, which would usually be the third clean day as I said ... after that suddenly things will get MUCH better. The only physical symptoms that you are likely to  be stuck with for some time will probably be the insomnia, that tends to drag out, Valarian Root helps.

Good luck and keep posting, people here are very supportive.

there really is no way to get to the other side of addiction but to get sick. with the dose you are on I would not taper with the vicoden I would get rid of them.. prolonging your addiction is a very risky thing. the fear of wd can cause many to continue. most addicts have a very difficult time with a taper unless they have someone else holding the pills and this requires opening up to someone you can trust.. this is not a bad idea as you can get help with the children and it helps so very much to have someone we can be accountable to. I wish you well..

tapering is extremely difficult in less you have someone who will hold your medicine and distribute it for you.  Spend some time reading other posts as this will aid you during the wd process.  you are already 2 days in to the process so why start taking pills again.  You can do this.  Many if not most people on this site have abused opiates for years at higher doses than you and have stopped cold turkey with far worse withdrawl symtoms than you.  I promise you that in another 2/3 days you will begin feeling better.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I'm very glad to read you are getting a handle on this now before it grows into a addiction where everything you love and cherish is threatened. You will feel wd but I really do not believe they will be horrendous but everybody is different. I would lay of the sub this is for sure.. it will take about 5 days for you to get to the other side. You may feel pain in the back and legs. bathroom issues and trouble sleeping. also some emotional upheavals.. you have not been on them very long and this is good.. Hot baths/showers will be very beneficial. drink plenty of fluids.. there is also in the bottom right a detox recipe of vitamins you can take the Thomas Recipe although Valium and other script drugs are not necessary.. keep reading the forum as knowledge on addiction will benefit you a great deal.. also you can glean many tips on helping with the symptoms of wd. Keep reaching out and Congrats on getting a jump on your addiction. Freedom from drugs is awesome !! lesa

You are not on a very high dose and it seems you have not been abusing them for a long time.  Take Imodium for the diarrhea, you will probably have some discomfort for 5-7 days.  Most people say that days 3 and 4 are the worst and then every day gets better.  The last thing to come back to you will probably be your regular sleep pattern,  Please stop taking the pills now before your habit increases,  The longer you take the medicine on a regular basis the worse the withdrawals.  Exercise will help you immensely and check on the amino acid protocols-lower left page of the forums page for over the counter supplements that will aid you.  You are doing great and you are almost over the worst.

Sorry forgot to ask about the tapering. Do you think I could taper with vicodens? Just wondering since they are also an opiate, but lower dosage than an oc. I dont want to prolong it but I also dont want to get sick.
