Pregnant & taking pain meds

I asked this question in the "Ask a Dr" forum and don't feel I got the answer I was looking for. It was a vet generic answer, posted on every question that pertained to this subject! So, if a woman finds out she's joyfully expecting...HOW does she tell her midwife she takes 4-5 10mg Norco a day? Any real life experience would be helpful. Thank you!

I wish you and your baby the best! I was on hydrocodone when I was pregnant, I did tell my doctor about it which you need to do. Have to make sure the baby is safe!

I'm doing ok! I haven't gotten in to see her yet. Still "too soon" for an appt. Which I don't quite understand! I will keep you all up on my progress. Thanks for the support :)

You got excellent advice from ANewLife....Just be honest with your midwife.  She will be able to help you.

Hello and congrats!

I am 6 months pregnant and on subutex which is prescribed by my doctor.  Are you prescribed the pain meds?  Either way, prescribed or not, I'd just be honest.  In all reality 4 or 5 should be very easy to taper off of under a doctor or midwive's care.  However, there are women here who have taken pain meds - as prescribed - their whole pregnancy due to pain issues, and have had healthy babies.  Hopefully they can chime in here as well and give some advice, but in the end I'd just be honest.  I would not just cold turkey off of them as that can put stress on the baby.  I'd definitly talk to your ob or midwife first and let them decide which course of action to take.  I wish you a very healthy and happy pregnancy :)
