Preventing relapse

Just a little advice for those who have recently gotten sober like myself...It is absolutely imperative that you eliminate all of your connections in order to prevent relapse. I was determined to quit but for some reason I kept phone numbers for people whom I could buy pills from. I had a difficult time letting go of what I considered to be my lifeline. I didn't tell these people that I quit because subconsciously I didn't want them to go away. In a way I felt at ease knowing that if I needed to go back, I could. It was almost like an insurance policy. Though I stopped reaching out to them, they continued to seek me out. And everytime their number came up on my phone it only made the urge to use stronger. I never pick up but each time they call it becomes such an incredible temptation and I am overwhelmed with anxiety. Each time the phone rings it causes my mind to race and it is a struggle over and over again. I have found that simply ignoring these people is just not good enough. They may never stop. Despite the reason you may continue to hold on, you must stop. It is time to face them and explain your situation. Make it perfectly clear to them that you are done with drugs for good because by doing so you are also making it perfectly clear to yourself as well.

I know the exact feeling. You feel as if it is some kind of a "sign." Just when you are feeling weak, you get that phone call. Your savior ya know? At that very moment it seems so right to just pick up the phone and a few minutes later all of your problems will vanish. It's amazing how the human mind can play tricks on you. The reality is your problems will just start all over again and any progress you have made will go right out the window and you will be right back where you started. We have to be strong.

Strange you should post this now, as I looked at my phone a few minutes ago, there it was. The phone call.  The one you want to answer soooo badly.  I've put them off for three days now.  Your right though.  I need to tell them not to call. That might just be my ticket out of this.

Good idea oxy.  I hope you do this.  I know you can!!!  You are sober now and you can continue to do it!  Set yourself free; call these people that supply you and be done with it!  I know its gonna be hard, but like I said YOU CAN DO IT!! I wish you the best!
