Question about Tramadol

I have been clean for 20 days and just went to the dentist this morning, because of pain I have. I told the dentist that I don't want anything narcotic for pain (because I was addicted to Vicodin). She gave me antibiotics and Tramadol. I filled these meds and took them as prescribed an hour ago. I do not know anything about Tramadol, so just looked it up online and some sites say that it is narcotic like. Is this medicine addictive? I really don't want to relapse and have no desire to take any narcotics. Can someone please tell me if they know anything about this? I did the right thing and told her no narcotics, but I am still afraid.

DO NOT TAKE THE TRAMADOL!!!!  I am in day 4 of detox from that terrible drug.  I am 48 years old and had never been addicted to anything in my life, this has been the worst experience of my life, and I've had some yucky things happen throughout the years.  Save yourself, don't believe these doctors that get their info. from a drug company that is also putting money in their pocket. Tramadol is EXTREMELY ADDICITIVE.  Today is my first day of not laying in my own vomit or my clothes soaked from a freezing sweat.  I've lost 23 pounds in 4 days from this, and I'm a small person to begin with! Please do not take the tramadol train! best of luck to you. reeny924

if u have a problem with narcotics then tram is not a good idea..it affects the same receptors narcotics do and is habit forming....as far as addiction goes..seems as thos tram addiction is getting morre and more prevalent....easy to get probably....and also cos people do not realize the dangers...used to be hydros and oxys mostly..now seeing more and more sub and tram wds here...heroin and methadone here and there as well....benzos too but not as often as the narcotics....either way...being safe is better than being sorry...noteveryone abuses everything they take,,ie....some who love the nrg from hydro would not have a problem with a benzo co it makes them tired...then others get addicted to just about anything..or abuse just about anything..i have a friend who abuses alcohol, hydro, trams, lyrica, ambien...u name it ..she will abuse it.....she went on methadone 2 days ago...30 mgs...maybe she will be better off...i dunno...i think she will still chase the buzz tho...but i hope not....everyone is different//even addicts///so often using ur own judgement while being cautious at the same time is the way to go...good luck

Thank you both for the info. I am going to stay away from this medication, it is not worth going backwards. I never want to go through another detox again; I can't believe that I made it out two and half weeks ago.

So glad you decided not to take the tram. Stay strong! I have to tell you that I called every place in a radius of two states for help with detox, I only had phys. depend. not emotional, I hate Tram I got nothing out of it! And I found no help anywhere, not until I found this web site!  This has been the most help to me.  And I plan on staying here now, if for nothing else than to warn and share my own experience with the terrible tram. train and hope that it will help at least one person. When you feel weak log on here, I find it helps more than anything else.Wishing you only good things!
