Question on Methadone

My older brother has been using pain meds for his back. He got really interested in stopping when I stopped...and almost daily he goes out of his way to mention to me how he thinks I'm doing good but he thinks he is too, because he only uses half a Vic a day, or now and then.

Today he told me "Yeah I got lucky, I have not taken any Vicodin in about a week without with drawls, but I took some Methadone"

I didn't want to laugh, but I also wanted to just say "YOU'RE SO STUPID!!!!" However, I don't know much about Methadone, in my experience, once you kick a drug, you can't just substitute it with another drug, am I wrong about Methadone?

Yep!! They are right..I have tried many drugs and the Methadone was the one that lead me into a 12 year spiral and adding 2 other meds to it for the extra push.We call it the Beast on here because that is what it can turn out to be. Some of my other experience from other opiates in detox where bad but this one went on for many months..Heck 9 months it still has lingering side effects.
So please tell him from us X Doners DO NOT go there!! If he is at a half of vic he should just stop now or it will just go on up the latter and waste many precious years of his life!!! If he wants to know anything about the addiction in any way, just have him jump on here. We all will share our non forgettable experiences.

Methadone is stronger, longer acting and 10 times harder to quit than Vic's ir norco. I would warn your friend, he is risking his life. Methadone detox is the single most difficult thing I've ever been through. Read posts of people kicking methadone. It is a nightmare. This person better get educated fast, or the school of hard knocks will kick his door in and take everything. Get this person to post if possible, all of us who came off methadone have similar opinions. Please inform your friend.

That's kind of what I figured. He's one of those people that just doesn't want to hear anything you have to say. I'm his little sister SO I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING...that's how he sees it.

Methadone is an extremely dangerous drug, it is so powerful that once you substitute methadone for pills, the pills are no longer effective. Thus you are left scrambling to find methadone. It does have its uses in heroin or massive pill abuse but if your brother had got down to half a vicodin a day he is really playing with fire using methadone. Try to convince him to stop or come on here and read the methadone horror stories. I have come off pills, heroin, and methadone and the methadone was by far the most drawn out withdrawal of all of them!
