Relapsed help

Well I screwed up, I relapsed. I broke my hand in a car accident and caved and took the pain meds I was perscribed telling myself "I can just take it as prescribed" yea right. any way I decided to stop taking them. I was a month clean when I decided to start again. I Decided to quit again after an 8 day binge. I feel so ashamed and worthless. I should have been stronger. but I want to be sober, so I am going to go through the withdrawls again. I used about 12-15 hydro 10/325 for about 8 days.
what should I expect for withdraws this time around? same as last time? thanks for the support guys, it always helpes me get through

12-15 a day...after a month clean u may feel some discomfort..hard to say as we r all different...the mental part seems to be the hardest when this happens and the physical part is easier as a rule cos u know what to expect this time around..dont beat urself up..this happens and believe me..u r not the first to cave after being clean..most do not make it totally the first go around...u should be proud that u caught urself and r getting back on track....if u have an accident again that requires pain meds, get someone to heopld them for u..also examine the situation and be sure u really need them cos many times we could do without the meds and our brains play trix on us telling us we need the pills for pain
dust urself off and get back on track...just a slip and next week u will be feeling squeaky clean again..keep posting

Relapsing is so painful and can mess with our heads. I never got used to it and everytime i relapsed it got that much harder. The guilt is horrible. You did not ruin everything, you just took a tiny step back, but moving forward again. If you didn't learn anything from this, then it was a waste, but i think you have and know now that 1 is too many. I am happy your w/d's are not as bad this time around and to make sure this dosen't happen again seek some type of aftercare or support. Your gonna be fine:) Good luck!

Thanks christos,

So I am almost on hour 36 and I don't feel nearly as bad as I did the first time I quit cold turkey, By hour 36 Last time I literally couldn't get out of bed. My body hurts and my legs hurt and I am dizzy and general I feel bad, But I am just so thankful that Its not as bad as last time.  I feel so bad about relapsing, I just wish I hadn't done it at such a crucial time in my life, it ruins everything

I really appreciate all the time and support/comments

the withdrawals shouldnt be even close to as bad, your tolerance would be the exact same, it always will be, no matter if its been a year or even longer, with vicodin, percocets, etc. you go right back to taking just as many as you used to take just to feel that" buzz" again, but since you went off of them for a month, got over the wds, and binged for 8 days, youll feel mild discomfort and minor wds for a few days, but thats about it, definitely no where near as bad as the first time one month ago if you went cold tiurkey and didnt use any replacement opioids during it,, if you used detox withdrawal-aiding meds then its not a big deal(like the Thomas Recipe- the meds included in it), but if you were using weaker opioids like tramadol, codeine,or treatment opioids like suboxone, methadone, etc, then the wd's would be bad and it would be pretty much starting from square one...dont get too down on yourself, you are doing one of the hardest things anyone ever will have to do during their lives, so you cant beat ur self up too much about this, everyone is entitled during recovery to make a few msitakes, you definitely should take a look back, take some time to think about why it wasnt worth it, and how much it has changed, the feeling, everything about it, and now how badly you feel about yourself relapsing, consider it a "lapse in judgment"  something we learned in the treatment program i attended for a few weeks, before starting an after-care program, and go from there..plus with your situation with being in an accident, its a little harder getting over the pain, one your pain threshhold is alot lower because of the opiate abuse(it creates more pain  than really is there and constantly exaggerates it, makin you think and feel like an opiate is the only answer to the pain), next itme anything like that ever happens to you, make sure you let the doctor know that you have a history with opiate/opioid addiction, they will know what the best option for you is, if its a severe incident or requires you to go unconcious and to be on necessary pain meds for control then they will know you need a higher amount of pain meds during being knocked out and directly afterwards if you stay in the hospital, but are also carefully monitored while at the hospital and once you are out on your own, knowing that you have an addictive past they will know what is best for you as far as pain control, what meds are available, are safe, yet will help ease the pain, but wont cause you to relapse again..i would also recommend going to even more NA meetings, also make sure you get a sponsor they are crucial for times you get close to relapsing or ahve an accident, some more counseling or therapy with someone trained in the substance abuse field is a very very good idea, and then come on this forum even more especially when you are feeling down, weak, or coming close to lapsing again, this fourm has saved me and helped me numerous times in the past trying to get off snorting heroin and/or oxycontin, and every time i made a mistake no matter what it was about there are always ppl on here to back you up, will be there for you, support you, and let you kow that everything will unfold the way it should. you need to go from that point on and concentrate all your energy on getting and staying clean and "in recovery", nice job on staying clean for one month and plan on going even longer now that youve had time to realize that you made a mistake and are starting afresh, with a clean state, you cand do it, and everyone on here would love to be there with you and for you, helping whenever you need it no matter what! if you need anything ever or have any questions, let me know anytime??..-christos

ok so you were a month clean before this accident and for 8 days you were taking 12 to 15 a day.the good news is that your body had plenty of time to rid yourself of the hydros.you may not be in that bad of shape as long as you either go cold turkey now or do a quick taper, but 1 month clean before you started back up is a good sign, just get it back together now and dont abuse what you have left,i think you'll be fine, maybe a few uncomfortable days and a little trouble sleeping for a while keep us posted.i learn something new every day i'm on this forum,it keeps me sane

You can do this, you have done it before...sorry not sure about how different the wd's will be but I am sure someone experienced will answer that question...I was taking the same thing but 25-30 a day, so I can sympathize with those terrible feelings you go through. Hang in there and keep posting, we all know that helps so much as these angels on this site swoop in and save us everytime we need it without fail...
Good luck to you
