Any positive thoughts about suboxone? Anyone...anyone

Does anyone has any positive feedback for suboxone. I've sat here and read tons of post about how negative it is. It's making me feel like I'm doing something wrong by taking them to help in my recovery. I started last Monday and haven't had any opiates since Jan 24th. Haven't even had those freak out crazy moments about not having any. Yey me.

Just out of curiosity, do u plan on staying on subs now forever popping? At some point u will have to come off of those, u do realize this, right? There not meant for long term maintenance. And I hear ya, they allowed me to go from opiates to subs w/o skipping a beat, but we all have to pay the piper at some time!

Hi there Courty,
I've been on a suboxone program for a few years now & I think it works great. Since I've been on them, I no longer feel high or anything. But IT'S WWAAYY safer than Methadone. I can speak from experience since I tried both options. Methadone doesn't work b/c it doesn't have the blocker in it like Suboxone does. Plus these meth clinics that wait outside selling drugs.
So my advice to u is this - If u r willing to get COMPLETELY CLEAN, go w the sub program.
Now the pro's of suboxone treatment = the medicine tastes like *** lol. Another thing is, u would b paying $220 a month. That's y I decided to do it this way since I was spending more on drugs a month & I'd STILL b broke! Lol U'd need medical /health insurance so it'll b pricey if u don't have med insurance. Another pro would b that I really have no desire to use.
Now for the con's lol = the taste is disgusting!!! Even after all these yrs I STILL have a problem. Lol And as I mentioned earlier, it's pricey. If u don't have any type of insurance than this would b something I wouldn't consider.
I'm not sure if I can contact u thru a private message since I'm new here. So if u need any further info on this pls don't hesitate to get in touch w me.
I hope this has helped u :-)

My opinion...I think at first the Suboxone does seem like a miracle drug. At least it did for me.  But looking back, your going to have to go through w/d one way or another. To me, all subs did was push off something I was going to have to do anyway.  Maybe staying on them a week or two is a doable plan, but no matter how you taper (were addicts WE DON'T TAPER CORRECTLY!!!!) you will eventually have to come off the subs too.  I say, hmmmm, a 4 -- 5 day w/d from pills or a 3 weeks w/d session coming off of subs??????   Take your pick.  You will have to do one or the other.  I just came off of subs and it's day 36 and my head is still not completely right.  How about aftercare?? N/A has been a God send for me so far.  I came off one drug to totally get addicted to another drug? Does that make sense to you????  Again, you can tell me to shove it, it's o.k., it's just my opinion. And we all know what opinions are like!!!!  lol

I come on from my phone alot as well! In the top right hand corner there are 3 stacked lines next to the search (magnifying glass?) click on the 3 lines and hit Full site.. OR go to the main page (where you see all the user threads) and you will see a green button that says post a question.. Click on it & post away. I have a windows phone so idk if yours will look the same but fingers crossed!

Lol about the cool whip.  I have not taken subs but have been tapering off fentanyl.  I think opiates in general wreak havoc on you desire for sweets and carbs.  I knew there was a problem when I started eating tubs of chocolate frosting with a spoon.  One morning after a chocolate binge my ex husband said it looked like I got into a throw down with the Keebler Elves...

May I ask if you guys gained weight while on suboxone? I've seriously gained 6lbs since I started, but I'm really craving sweets bad. Idk if its because I don't have to worry about not keeping my buzz with the pills or if its the medicine. I ate a whole tub of Cool Whip yesterday, it didn't even get a chance to thaw and I didn't care! : D

Well I can say this.... Suboxone saved my life. I was a heroin addict for years, overdosed several times, luckily somehow i avoided jail but I am absolutely positive that, at the rate i was going, i would be dead right now if did not get on a suboxone program. Yes, its also addictive. Yes there are withdraws. However, if you're properly tapered off... the physical withdraws are minimal and manageable. afer being on suboxone for 8 months, I very recenty tapered off and i'm thinkin of getting back on it because i do not believe that I'm ready mentally to stay completely clean. Some might say that sub is a crutch... but i say, if you have a broken leg than you need a crutch in order to walk. You're doing the right thing. Be proud of it

I only used subs for 20 days, due to fear I had from the stories. Looking back, I should have done a low dose at more like 90 days. No do overs in the sub game. You seem to have a solid plan in place. Hang around and make some friends. Glad your off your drug of choice.

The above advice is spot on, subs are used to give you time away from your DOC and to reassess your life, a time out so to speak. You have great advice and help from your Dr and therapist and you have a plan, well done. I am 8 month free from Subs so know it is possible, I would go as far as saying they saved my life. So don't go listening to others story and write your own my friend. If you do everything as advised there is no reason you shouldn't come out of this with minimal w/d's. Wishing you all the best on your journey, ;)

You know the most important thing is the way YOU feel and it sounds like you are feeling good about it.  I think I would have seriously considered subs if they were available here.  I have relapsed way too many times and have been feeling desperate at times.
It sounds like you have a good addiction counselor.
Please keep posting and let us know how it works out for you.  It will be nice to read a success story instead of all the horror stories about subs.

My cousin was on some very hard stuff for years. Used subs to get off the crap, and it really helped. But then, like most of us addicts do, he began abusing subs. After about two years he detoxed from them. I don't know if the sub detox was any more or less difficult than anything else (my experience is limited to vics) but he had one hell of a time.
Just from info from someone who knows someone, whatever that's worth.

Why thank you, thank you...

Yes I'm going to an addiction specialist. He told me most people have such a hard time because they are on it too long or they don't taper the way it should be or both.  We've discussed me only being on it a total of 90 days. I'm going to a therapist as well to deal with my past. I know this is just the beginning but right now I feel better than I've ever felt about my recovery .

It was explained very well. I don't know how much I can add except to agree that is was designed to help patients to get their lives back in order while they are not experiencing withdrawal or cravings. It is ALWAYS to be used in conjunction with some form of aftercare such as therapy and meetings. this is a chance for you to get to the root of your issues and get your life in order. You should not stay on it a long time and should always taper from it when the time is right. Stick around here. this is a great place for support.

Congratulations!

I think the negative stuff you read on here about Suboxone is where people take it to get off something else and end up on it for many years. Then...when they go to get off the Subs...they have serious withdrawals. Suboxone was designed to be temporary...at least thats my understanding of it. Docs are supposed to wean patients off of it but instead leave them on for years.

The only thing Im positive about is that subs are addicting too so at some point you will have to WD from them..
I'm really glad that you are trying to get clean. Are you under a doctors supervision? How long will you be on it? I only wish you the very best of luck!
