What is your "aftercare?" Meetings? I teach high school , and cant imagine having time for that... I keep thinking i will use one more month, then get clean over the summer. I have gone thru wds at the end of the month for up to 7 days until i was able to get more pills.... About a $2 k a month habit! Im so ashamed!!

Hi, Davidmel, welcome. I know you are scared. Honestly, NOT telling dr, avoiding meetings, and not telling spouse is not off to a very good start.  Trust me, trying to do this alone, never works. Never. You would probably be about the 10 millionth person to tell her dr that you have an addiction. And about the 10 millionth person to tell your spouse. We all think our addiction is so horrid, but more importantly, we underestimate people. We think people are judging us, but it's just self-centered fear. People are thinking about themselves, not us! Remember, if you go to meetings, and see someone you know, what do you think they are there for as well? Makes sense?

I was on norco for about a decade. The way I became sober was to make sure I had ZERO access to any pills (break ties w/ your dealer, dr. etc), after I detoxed, I got immediately into aftercare. I walked into meetings, reluctantly, and never left. The desire to use actually went away. And that never happened when I tried to get clean on my own.

Btw, cold turkey from opiates is safe (barring an underlying problem.) So if your healthy, and only on norco, it's safe. It just sux. But it's a necessary evil.

So where are you now? Have you started detox? Do you have any left?

I am so flattered that strangers respond to help. Thank you so much. I teach in a small town, so going to meetings locally are out of the question. Dont want to include my doctor, either... I know everyone in the office. My husband, who does not know would be mortified...thank u for the encouragement. If i make it, i promise to pay it forward. Hope to try an anti-depressant when i begin wd tomorrow

I would talk to a doctor. When I got sober 4+ years ago I stopped cold turkey but not all drugs can be stopped that way (such as alcohol). I would go to see a doctor and tell them you are serious about stopped and see if doing it cold turkey is okay. Unfortunately that is the way to do it most of the time and the withdrawal can be intense. But I promise sobriety is well worth it. You will thank yourself in the long run. Hope this helps.

Hi Davidmel. Welcome to the forum. Congrats on your decision to stop and get your Freedom money and life back ! Hot baths our showers will help right now with the aches in your muscles and back also the restless feeling in your legs Epson's salt in a hot bath would be good as the magnesium will help your muscles, take as many as you can force yourself to take.. drinking lots of water you do not want to get dehydrated if you do you will feel much worse. a sports drink would be good in helping to balance your electrolytes. Imodium for any bathroom issues. Try to eat whatever you feel like but force yourself to eat and last Move Exercise try to get outside and walk this will help with all the feelings and aches It really makes a big difference if you keep busy. Last have a good attitude about this Try to see it in a Positive light for it is a Positive thing you are doing for your life.. wd last about 5 days for the very worst but then you are free of the drugs a few weeks of feeling odd but in time you will feel well. AA our NA would help to keep you on track. Keep checking back as others comment I wish you well. lesa
