Suboxone,benzo's and Adderall

Hello everyone, I've been taking Suboxone, 24rmg, a day since 2006. I'm also being treated for depression for the past fifteen years and currently taking Trazadone, primarily for sleep, and Wellbutrin. About a month ago during one of my appointments with my psychiatrist she decided that I also have ADHD and has prescribed 30mg. of Adderall a day along with Ativan 1mg. a day for anxiety. She's aware of my addiction problem and that I'm taking Suboxone. In all honesty I've began to abuse the Adderall, taking a lot more than I should and my psychiatrist is not aware of it. At first I was unsure as to why this psychiatrist would prescribe these two drugs knowing the potential for abuse? I realize that I have the ultimate decision of whether to take these two drugs, but being an addict it was hard to resist. Does anyone have any feedback about my situation? Do you think the psychiatrits is partly to blame or does it all fall on me?

That is ASININE & that Dr. should have her license revoked!  It doesn't take a rocket science to point out her GLARINGLY OBVIOUS mistakes!

#1 What Dr in her right mind would prescribe 30mg Adderrall to ANYONE (non/addict) right off the bat???
#2 Esp with a 2nd psychotic drug!
#3 Es[ when patient has admitted an addiction???

I mean "HELLO?"

Why Adderall? With so many alternatives, why prescribe #1 most abused?
Why IR vs. ER? (instant vs. extended release - which can't be crushed/snorted or easily abused taking multiple)
Why not start w/ small amount, to determine tolerance, and effects - esp since combining w/another drug?

Seriously CRAZY!

While I realize post is old, thought this might help someone else if/when doubting a medical professional's advice (and overall mental health!).

If unable to find a personal recommendation, I've always used "Top Doctors in XXXX" (your city/area) as a resource.  Got a few bad eggs, but better than closing your eyes & pointing.

History (ancient & recent) has proven 100% that western medicine, like all big business, is CORRUPT TO THE CORE.

What drives it - GINORMOUS PROFITS gained by KEEPING US SICK.  Even morally upright doctors are forced to maintain the ******** "approved by the XXXX Council, CDC, XXX Board, blah blah ... it's all ******** LIES.

If you want a REAL medical professional who's NOT PRAYING to the CDC/Big Pharma God ... find a good holistic doctor, get the real scoop on the poison you've been ingesting, and do whatever you can to get out of the rat wheel they've got you running on, proverbial "needle in your arm," or you'll learn the hard way ... it's never gonna be enough.  You'll just keep needing more, and more, and more ....

Hopefully you found a good psych & that quack has had her license revoked by now.

Thanks for taking the time to answering my post. I have to agree with you about there being a lot of inept, not only psychiatrists, but M.D.'s as well.  I had thought about my situation a little more, and what scares me about inept doctor's, especially psychiatrists, is the level of trust we give these people! When someone goes to see a psychiatrist, a lot of the time they are either in a critical state, or close to it, and need help in the worse way and if that psychiatrist is one those who's more concerned with being paid than actually offering, or is capable of giving, the desperately needed help, how much danger that puts the patient in! It really scares the hell out of me when I think about that happening and I'm sure that it has happened!! Thanks again for your help.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my post. You're absolutely right about knowing better! I think somewhere in the back of my mind I did know better, but the temptation caught me at a really weak moment and I caved into it. One thing that almost all addicts have, and are good at, is justifying things and I believe that's exactly what I did, I told myself that "Well the doctor knows about my addiction problem and yet she still prescribed these drugs for me, so they most likely won't endanger my sobriety". The other thing that I, and I'm sure most addicts have, is tremendous hindsight, we always know what we should have done after the fact right?

i honestly think that you need to find a new doctor!  docs, pychiatrist are the biggest drug dealers around and alot of the time they give u these meds to make sure u come back. if your addicted u will make sure u go! they have to make money too and thats how they do it!  sayin that knowing yourself and how u abuse drugs you should have known better and now if u really feel like u have a problem the first step is to find a pych that will help u not hurt u.   you know whats right we all do we just chose to ignore it until ITS TOO LATE

I'm sorry to say, but yours qualifies as an inept psychiatrist.  Anyone who knows you have an addiction problem and makes those drugs available for you needs to have HER head examined!

Because there are a lot of inept psychiatrists out there!  Believe me, I know.  I've just been through one heck of a time trying to find a decent one myself.  Pretty scary.

Hi, I agree with what you said about that we are ultimately responsible for what we put in our bodies, but the point I was trying to make was that why would a psychiatrist who was aware of my addiction problem, put that kind of temptation in front of me, knowing that as an addict there would be a chance that I would abuse these two drugs that she has recently prescribed for me? The difference between the Jack Daniels scenario and the drugs is that one's controlled and can only be obtained by someone who is supposed to have your welfare in mind and the other one isn't? Please let me know what your thoughts are?

They are both prescribed for the same thing, but they are different on a chemical level.

I guess you could make the comparison of Vodka to Whiskey - they both get you drunk, there both liquor, but there not the same.

Hello, I had another question for you and that's are you familiar with a drug called Methylphendate? I think I spelled that correctly. The closest thing I can come up with online is that it's really Ritalin. Do you knjow if that's the same as Adderrall? The reason I ask is that the psychiatrist that prescribed the Adderrall for me also gave me a prescription for this Methylphendate. Are they in fact the same, or what's the difference?

I understand, yet at the same time we are ultimately the ones who decide what goes into our bodies. Why do people blame the doctors and pharmaceutical companies but don't demand that Jack Daniel's distillery or quit making whiskey or Anheiser Busch stop making beer because there are people who can't stop at one? The point is, anything can be abused. From the video game addict to the food addict. Should McDonalds stop making Big Mscsy? As much as we may hate to hear it, we need to. I know it is difficult to rid ourselves of any addiction and easy to blame someone else, but ultimately we are responsible for ourselves.
