Suboxone.....

I have been on Suboxone since April......I tried to get off of it a month after trying to take it.  Needless to say I relapsed, went back on it.  Before I relapsed I really didnt crave norco much at all, but thought well what the heck one more time and then I wont ever touch it again.  Well boy wasnt I wrong.  So went back on the subs but this time I craved the norco again, which wasnt the case before.  I could seriously kick my *** for wanting to do it one more time since I really didnt have any cravings, just plenty of ignorance.  Anyhow since I was back on the subs I was taking 2 8mg/2mg daily and still have some cravings.......but still wanted to get off of these because I wanna say I can do this myself and dont want the horrible withdraws that I have read.  So I cut that dose in half for 2 days never felt any withdraws other than chronic pain (subs have been the answer for my chronic pain).  So I thought heck with this I will just stop.  Well I had major sleep issues so I thought well I will just take 1/2 of 8mg/2mg tablet and to my surprise being on just the 4mg has taken away every single craving, thought, desire to us.  I am just floored at such a low dose is helping me more than the 16mg.  Has this happened to anyone else?  I am thinking about going down to 2 mg tomorrow to see what happens but I will continue with the 4mg if I feel I am going to relapse.
But like I was wondering if anyone else has been helped with a very small dose of subs versus the higher dose?
Thanks

Hi Indiana,

I took suboxone for nearly 4 years and for the majority of that time, my regular dose was between 2-4 mg.  I would break the 8 mg tab in 4's and most of the time 1/4 tab would suit me just fine.  At the higher doses, I would experience trouble sleeping and at any dose, I had severe daytime sleepyness.  Suboxone worked great for me, but after being on it 4 years, I finally decided that it was time to be off it for good.  I ran out once on vacation and went through the most horrible withdrawal and that was only from 2 mg.  I tried tapering and could never get below 1mg, so I finally went through a medically assisted detox in June.  It was the best thing I have ever done.  I have had zero cravings and have been completely clean now for 108 days.  Anyway, the lower doses maintain just fine.  Good luck with your future success - when you are ready to stop completely, keep posting, there are many here who can help you taper and support you through the process.

Take Care

sub comes in an 8 mg tablet or a 2 mg tablet...so u were taking 2 8 mg tablets per day?
Doctors overprescribe sub like candy it seems..it is good to research urself before u take any medication as often drs are not really up to date on what they rx..i hate to admit this as i am in the medical profession but sadly enuf/it is true

sub has a ceiling effect...read the article in the health pages on the ceiling effect of sub....it is debateable whether doses of more than 4 mgs actually serve any purpose at all other than the person fulfilling the need to use frequently thru the day due to habit..sub is a sticky drug..once ur receptors are saturated, taking more serves no purpose..and for most, 4 mgs is where the max effect physically for most pill poppers is reached///mentallly this is not always true//nor for heavy users such as heroin etc..but for the large majority it is theorized that anything over 4 mgs is purely psychological

u will also see this when people taper off large doses of sub such as 24-32 mgs...they skid on thru till they hit 4 mgs..for some til they reach 2 mgs..then they suffer a bit..less is better with sub it seems..both financially and mentally/physically

talk to ur dr about it and what u r experiencing..u need to do this along with him so he knows where u r at..also/aftercare will help tons//after all this hard work u certaily dont wanna relapse..keep posting

Hey I guess there aren"t many of us suboxone users on the site. I've had the same experience. I've been on the sub a little longer then you but I don't think that matters much.
Yes that sub is strong and lasts a long time in your system. My last attempt ended after 3 days. Each day the withdrawals were getting a little worse. Scared me because I didn't know what the pattern is. Now I haven't taken any sub for 8 days but I have been taking another narcotic(OPANA just to get off of the sub. Now Iam totally confussed. So tomorrow I am going to not take any opana and see how I feel. From what I read I don"t think 8 days is long enough to get off the sub but if I take the OPANA longer I'll get strung out on it. This is just so F......ed. I was clean and sober for 10 years and I am going to get clean again..........somehow. But lets stay in touch. please!!!!
