opiates n alcohol

I'm on 12 days clean from codeine but as a treat i had a beer with a meal today (first beer / alcohol in months!).  Strangely I got that really heavy feeling in my back and legs like i did with day 2-4 wd.  Is this 'normal'  Do opiates n alcohol bind to the same receptors?

I have never had a problem with alcohol, the odd 1 every couple of months and i really have to fancy 1 at that!

no nicotine doesn't feel the void....you have to be on opiates for at the very least a year multiple times a day for at the very least one year to experience decent withdrawals......trust me.

hmm. interesting about the receptors. wonder if nicotine also fills that void. that may explain why i did not experience any withdrawl after quitting. i did wean down for a month first. but have not had cravings or anything. smoking like crazy though. ha

The receptors themselves are different for alcohol and opiates...however, they are closely intertwined. Therefore, it's hard for the brain to distinguish from the two. Alcohol is a drug, make no mistake about it. Regardless of your drug of choice, alcohol will almost certainly lead you back to it, or become a problem of its own. It's best to stay well away from all mood altering substances, including alcohol.

You know that is a possibility abt alcohol binding to the same receptors,  interesting thought.   But you are okay now, right??  It is just one beer so I would just leave it alone for awhile longer and see how you do.  Best wishes
