did you have problems with the high dosage? I take about 500mg a day now and I didnt know if that is really too much? i need it though, otherwise I cant function, and I dont want to take hydro due to the tylenol and oxy just seems so bad!
Addendum:
I mean tramadol is NOT really first-line!!
There are other first-line agents for migraines - tramadol is really first-line. I assume you have explored these with your doctor? Tramadol affects some and not others in terms of having a withdrawal syndrome. Remember "addiction" and physical dependence are different things. Addiction is pyschological craving, physical dependence in when you get symptoms when you withdrawal. Everyone gets physical dependence with certain drugs, such as opioids, whereas only a few people get addicted. I'd be looking for another drug if possible, and do a "test withdrawal" from Tramadol (while being covered with some other analgesic) to see if you have any problems.
Im prescribed 50mg 3 times a day otherwise the migraines are constant...codeine by itself doesnt do anything for the migraines. My doctor wants to put my dose up to 100mg twice a day but im now unsure if i should agree to this because of the addiction side of things.
Be carefull that you don't take them everyday and get hooked. It doesn't take long. You are better off on codeine.
thanks for the warning, il be more careful with them now :)
Well - definitely relapsed but am on to day 2 - CT. I actually feel fine. I'm pretty surprised because the last time I "quit" I was HURTING. I started doing Yoga and working out every day though so I think that will help. I'll post again if I don't relapse. If I do relapse I'll be too embarrassed to post until I "quit" again
Yeah,i'd have to agree, ultram is one of those, either you get hooked or you don'tdrugs.Unfortunately,I am hooked on them and often run out a week too soon.I am on them for severe hernia pain(luckily it is scheduled for repair in january) and I get obsessed with the dam pills, often counting them!!! Currently I am trying to get off of them, and the cravings and depression are horrible!! They need to make this a scheduled drug!!!!!PS--It also messes up your adrenal glands!! Mine both are full of tumors which I was told were from being on ultram for 6yrs!! They also give me the chills something horrible. Wish me luck guys,I am not quite so strong yet!
Oh, it's addictive. I went CT from 1500mg a day a little more than a month ago. Be careful. I was prescribed it to help with ongoing RA and fibromyalgia pain. It's a tricky little bugger.
I'm on 400 mg of tramadol a day for pain and I didn't knoe it ws addictive. I was on 780mg combined of morphine and oxycodone a day a month ago, which I detoxed off. The pain is still excruciating and I have to look into other options now, like maybe suboxone. But I have not had any "high" feeling from it at all either. I never felt a high from the oxy and morphine either. Just sedated.
Why is it that the DEA hasnt yet changed the status of Tramadol? I read that they were considering changing it to a Schedule III narcotic but that was a long time ago and nothing changed. I personally have used it a few times in an attempt to control pain but it did nothing for me in any way. Didnt help my pain one iota, and didnt get me high either. Its a weird drug. some people get strongly effected by it though and you see alot of folks here that are addicted to it.
It is very addictive. I am addicted to it ! I was taking 10 to 15 a day but I also have cancer so I have to take them! I have now gone back to 400mg a day which is what im supposed to take! Be careful with it ! your body will get hooked very easy!
Becca
Im on 50mg 3 times a day, and am also on a prescription of codeine but only take the codeine when required. Iv been on this prescription for 2 years.
A lot of doctors don't tell patients it is addicting, because they don't understand the drug. Like any other narcotic, and it is like a narcotic, if you take it for a long period of time your body will become dependent on it. If you take more than 200mg (8 pills) a day you are at risk for seizures especially if you take them all at once. Some people can take it w/o seizures but not others and you never know when it will happen.
How much do you take and how often? How long have you been on them? What other narcotics are you taking?
