I do believe that you can take opiates and other drugs without being an addict.  I'm pretty sure it has a lot to do with your physical chemistry.  Some people, like myself, are just plain drug-resistant.  When my husband was in Vietnam, the docs at the base made up a nice little pill for me so I could work 20 hours per day... it was a mixture of dexidrine and phenobarbitol (or something like that... it's been a long time).  Anyway, when I got news that Glenn was on his way home, I took the remaining script back to the pharmacy and told them I didn't want them anymore.  As I recall, I never had a single reaction to a cold-turkey withdrawal.  I never took much in the way of alcohol (don't like being out of control), and other than the occasional marijuana joint, never did anything worse.  I also quit smoking cold turkey after 20 years.  I got really sick and was prescribed Oxycontin starting in 2001.  I hated how it made me feel, so I quit it cold turkey.  Also quit Neurontin and Lyrica.  In 2003, my doctors switched me to morphine, and I started small (30 mg/day) & ended at 120 mg/day.  Lately, the 120mg was not working and I had been having some weird symptoms such as horrible skin itching, hair loss, sleeplessness, muscle jerking, & stabbing eye pain, & a few other things... not to mention that it was getting so that I was taking 60 mg every 6 hours without relief.  My Neurologist moved away & I did not want to start up with another doctor.  So when my husband left on business for a couple of days, I just decided to quit the Morphine.  That was Monday.  Today is Saturday.  I'm still here.  I have never
I have zero emotional attachment to the drug, and although I am suffering from a many  difficulties due to my cold-turkey approach, I don't feel the need to take any of he 20 or so pills I still have at home, so I guess that should answer your question.  Hope my situation helps you.

I have been taking morphine tablet form about 30mg a day for about a year.  Also take very high doses of other weak opioids and some valium daily.  I have severe chronic pain.  However I haven't increased the dose of morphine by more than 5mg since I started and get side effects when I take too much.  I believe I can stop when the pain stops.  So am I addicted?  I don't feel addicted and don't crave it, just need it when I am in pain, regularly and every day.  Am I kidding myself and just an addict with regular withdrawal symptoms?  Is it possible to use morphine regularly and NOT be an addict.  I certainly don't feel like one.

If you take it like your suppose doesn't mean your addicted. But with all that you are taking you will more or less go thru withdrawal. I would start lowering the morphine and try lowing the 30mg to 15mg. Your Dr can wean you off them.
