Don't know what to do!

Hey. Just want your guys opinion. When I was 18 I got bad on painkillers. When I was 19 I went to rehab. It worked for alittle but I ended up back on them. Nov 07 I enter a methadone treatment program and I have been there ever since. About 3 months ago I found out I had Fibromyalgia which is a cronic pain diease which there is no cure for. I'm on cymbalta, which helps aliitke but my doctor wants me to goto the local pain clinic and get methadone purscribed there, instead if going to the clinic. So instead of me taking it for drug addiction I wound take it for pain relief. don't want to be on methadone forever but I feel like if I switch I may be on it for a long time, nut I'm terrified if I get of the methadone and they try to give me a narcotic, I'm gonna give in. I would love to hear what u guys have to say. Everyone around wants me off of it and I understand why but the don't understand my fear.

Well I go to a methadone clinic cause of drug problems. I didn't start feeling the pain from the fybro until after I started going to the clinic and that's what terrifies me cause everyone keeps telling me how much the methadone is helping with my pain and if that's case I can't even imagine what the pains gonna be like without the methadone. And I also thought that doctors only prescribed narcotics for fybro as a last resort too. My family doctor has me on cymbalta which helps alittle but last time I saw him he was like "well I really can't do much for u so I think u need to go to the pain clinic and think about getting your methadone from them instead of getting it from the clinic" I'm just so scared that if I get off the methadone and the pain is terrible and the doctors try to give me narcotics, I'm gonna go back to the way I was when I was bad on them. I don't trust myself around them, let alone having a script of them every month. Does anyone know of any good Non-narcotic meds to help with fybro. So when I do go to the pain clinic I'll beable to talk to the doctor. I'm so over worrying about freaking PILLS! It's really my luck that I abused pain pills and know I have a cronic pain diease. Thanx for the advise :)

There are many many other ways to deal with fibromyalgia other than methadone. I dont understand why they are even prescribing it to you. It should be used as a last resort for pain relief. I strongly suggest you get off of methadone and find altternative ways to deal with the nerve pain of fibro.

HI.....I was on methadone for 6 1/2 yrs for the most part it worked great for pain control but periodically they have to up you dose OVER THE YRS WENT FROM 30MG TO 150MG witch was the ceiling at the clinic I was at then it quit working all together ...got left with a huge addiction to break free from and let me tell you I have kicked most every pill out there at least once  NOTHING compares to methadone,,,if you have chronic pain find out if there is a ceiling limit on dose if not you have to then decide if you want to be on it the rest of your life.....I dont think the quality of life methadone gives you in the higher doses justifies its side effects no sex ...nolding off at the most in appropriate times and the suttle fog your under that you dont realize till your off it.....if it where me and I was offered it again knowing what I know now I would run the other way it just ant worth it there are non narcotic ways to deal with pain....today my back is still a disaster but I live more pain free off the narcotics then on them ....time to dry yourself out and see just where you stand with real pain....I wish you luck this is a tuff dission but to me methadone should not even be manufactured ..........Gnarly

Stay off the METHADONE, I take cymbalta 60 mg twice a day, for fibromyalgia, I also have many other problems. but I would never touch the stuff. Be tough you kicked the stuff, stay off it.
